After all the stick about Ronald Hearns being unworthy of fighting Strum for a belt, he comes off that loss and has somehow been picked for the first defence of Chavez Jr:rofl:-(

Talk about having faith in your fighter....

It's fantastic matchmaking from a promotional point of view.

It's not that bad if he'd planning on fighting in November as well TBF.

This has got nothing to do with Top Rank. They want Jr to fight Manfredo in Nov on HBO. But his Mexican handlers want to put the Hearns fight on in September.

If he fights again in November then can't fault him for keeping busy.

They shouldn't masquerade it as a WBC defence imo. Hearns has no business fighting for a title again.
The date for the fight is Sept 17th, which just so happens is the same day as the Mayweather v Ortiz PPV. Are you positive Top Rank had nothing to do with it?:think

Yep, it's not even official yet and the proposed date is September 24th.

    Steve Kim...

Ok, while Arum says that Chavez is not fighting on Sept 24th. His manager, Billy Keane said he just got off the phone with Jr who says his fight against Ronald Hearns in Mexico is a go.

And this is a bit older...http://www.badlefthook.com/2011/7/2...avez-jr-next-fight-september-roach-ariza-arum

Looks like your right about Top Rank not wanting to be involved but the date is the 17th now. TV Azecta is a freeview mexican station available over here.

    It's a stay-busy fight, I don't think that they care too much.

I really think they need to switch it to the day before. Rather than take away any buys, I think Hearns v Chavez Jr just highlights what a great ****in card the PPV is!:yep
