Chavez was more popular but IMO Ricardo Lopez is the greatest Mexican ever!

Lopez was fantastic, pure textbook stuff! But he needed a fight like Cabajal or Gonzalez on his record imo

Chavez has those type level fights

 

You're entitled to your own opinion & you can make a legit case he's best ever.**** floyd looked up to him for a reason.Roy jones studied sanchez & so on.Finito,Chavez,Sanchez,Marquez in no particular order.My boi finito is very underrated his skill was unprecedented & size/Resume doesn't do him justice.One of the most skilled fighters ever forget just mexican history.

 

In all honesty, I don't know that much about Azteca. Has some quality wins (a KO of Zivic, wins over the likes of Cocoa Kid and Cerefino Garcia, as well as Baby Joe Gans and Young Peter Jackson indicate that he was obviously a fighter of quality. The one thing is that a lot of those wins occurred when those fighters were either kind of green (e.g. Garcia) or past their best (Zivic).

Ring rated him just behind Finito when rating the all time Mexicans...I think I'd be inclined to do the same just because of the mitigating circumstances regaring his best wins.

 

Ricardo does not have the resume of Chavez.

 

Well Holmes and Louis had nowhere to jump to so of course heavyweights get judged solely on their one division most of the time.

It's not about the weight-jumps, it's about the quality of opponents. Lopez beat everyone there was to beat at his weight, but his best wins don't match up to Chavez's. One divisional era's top 10 contender's don't automatically equate to another's top 10.

 

That's my point when you defend your title you can only fight who is available it's hard to compare an era to another but regardless being the greatest at your division means a lot more than collecting trinkets....forgot the posters name but I Hope he doesn't mind posting some f Chavez many non description opponent records

 

No, Lopez isn't greater than Chavez.

The top 5 Mexicans for me are Chavez, Sanchez, Saldivar, Olivares and Marquez. Behind them you have the likes of Barrera, Morales, Lopez etc, and Ricardo is in that sort of group. He'd rank in the lower reaches of a top 10 for me personally, and i'm a huge fan of his.

 

let's be real most casual fans don't watch anyone below lightweight...so they don't know who is a goodfighter there Hamehd helped change that...they need to watch Chang, galaxy, lots,

 

Lopez isn't even in the discussion for the Mexican GOAT. At best, he's a top ten and that's all there is to it.

 

Nope, lets not get carried away with that 0, amazing skills, but others were more accomplished, as In there skills were tested with similarly great fighters.

Chavez, Marquez, Sal Sanchez, Olivares, Saldivar, Lopez

There were some big fights just 3lbs north of him. Not entirely his fault that they didn't happen, but you don't really have a case for being the Mexican GOAT if your best win is over Rosendo Alvarez. Brilliant fighter, tremendous dominance of his division, but I think the case for him even being a top 5 Mexican fighter is weak. Very weak.

 

Chavez, Saldivar, Sanchez, Olivares, Canto, Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Zarate immediately spring to mind.

 

Chavez was P4P#1 and best in his division at 130, 135, and 140. The titles he won certainly weren't trinkets. Chavez beat better fighters than Lopez did, that's all there really is to it. It may be unfair Lopez wasn't granted the same caliber of opposition, but you can only go by who a fighter has beaten, not how he looks.
