I beleive this might be the first knockdown ,when ,judging from the film Willard got up with an embarrassed smile on his face .

Seldon was on the floor with a" punch", that grazed the top of his head ,HE QUIT,and in my opinion should not have been paid.In fact I would have revoked his licence.
Willard took the worse beating I have ever seen a man sustain in a ring ,he tried to fight until he could not physically continue anymore.
After the fight he was violently castigated by the press and labelled a quitter and a coward. How times have changed ?

You are selling Willard far short. First of all, it was 26 rounds not over 30 and he was beating Johnson fairly well over the last few rounds. A good game plan executed well. Furthermore, what modern giant would you comprehensively endorse to go 26 rounds in sweltering heat? That's some serious stamina. Conversely, I love to hear Johnson wags exhalt his post reign accomplishments (against absolutely no one of note) yet proclaim he was shot when against Willard.

Also, I think Willard looks rather good in the footage against Moran, employing the exact style he should with his tremendous assets, thudding jab controlling distance, setting up his right and when in close a very educated uppercut.
