Haye puts on an excruciating beating. He wouldn't have a cat's chance in landing a jab let alone a right hand. It'd still be nice and appropriate to see Chris Arreola at 220-230lbs.
That isn't as true at heavyweight as in the rest of the sport and you know it. In the unlimited division, power sells tickets (even if it's only demonstrated in knockouts of nobodies), and people who have it will be maneuvered through the rankings as far as their power alone will carry them if there's nothing else to complement it. This is nothing shocking. It sucks, but it's how it goes. Arreola never had a work ethic and never deserved a high ranking. He had enough of a punch to make people think he was marketable. It's really that simple.
Then I'll ask you again, name me 10 fighters who weren't fighting in the 1920s, that were disgusting, fat, lazy slobs who shared the success and acclaim that Chris Arreola has? They generally don't do they, IB?
He's certainly among the fattest and laziest to have been pushed as far as he was. On that we don't disagree. Most heavyweights these days (even at the top, barring a very small handful most of whom currently have belts) are fat lazy slobs. Where have you been? :huh Odlanier Solis is a fat lazy slob and is being maneuvered toward a title shot. James Toney, of whom I'm a big fan, had degenerated into a fat lazy slob at the point in his career where he landed several world heavyweight title bouts, two eliminators, and some minor title fights.
I have to disagree with my pal IB. I think Arreola does have potential. Arreola at 236-238 pounds would be a very dangerous man. Will he ever come into the ring at 236-238 pounds? I really doubt it! I see gate keeper status in his near future.
Here's Ring Magazine's Heavyweight rankings. 1. Wlad 2. Vitali 3. Haye 4. Povetkin 5. Adamek 6. Chagaev 7. Chambers 8. Boytsov 9. Valuev 0. Arreola Who would you say was by some distance the most disgusting fat body among that list IB? We've now resorted to splitting hairs because you're an argumentative **** but do answer the question.
Easily Arreola. It's funny that you think we're arguing, because we're in complete agreement. It's disgraceful that someone like him could ever appear in any top ten or in a world title match. Yet - that's the state of things right now. It's a business. HBO banked on his power and milked what they could out of it. Being unsavory doesn't make it altogether surprising. That seems to be the only point where we disagree. Just because it's the worst symptom to date doesn't mean we didn't already know about the disease.
Haye might as well beat him I agree but still an interesting fight. Arreola will keep the pressure up and you never know what might happen if he lands. In terms of excitement, whoever wins, this is an exciting worthy fight. I don't think it suits him to be at that weight.
I wasn't trying to educate people with my thread, I wanted to know people's thoughts and feelings on Chris Arreola. It's about as necessary and relevant as every one of the "Pacquiao is on steroids" or "Floyd is a coward" threads we see on here. Perhaps you'd appreciate those discussions more, IB. Run along. :yep
That's my point, he has a conditioning team and if 220 was his best move they would have forced him there. They know this weight is best for him so they're keeping him there. It's obvious he comes in horrible shape for stay active fights but no one can say his shape was the reason he lost to Vitali. If he wasn't in shape he would have been knocked out and wouldn't have landed serious shots on Vitali. That's what he relies on his, his size to overpower opponents, take that away and he's screwed in my opinion.
What's the problem exactly, dude? I gave my thoughts and feelings on Chris Arreola. You should have specified if you wanted people with negative thoughts and feelings towards him to not participate. :yep
