Not exactly the late 1990's. SuzieQ knows Vitali has ALWAYS tested clean as a pro. Cool. Then are Holyfield, Toney, Vargus, and Jones anyone else who tested postive also barred from your all time lists? More double standards!
You obviously know all of nothing if you think friggin' Vitali of all people abused steroids throughout his boxing career. It's nigh IMPOSSIBLE to have the amount of injuries that guy had on any type of steroids. It's damned near impossible to overtrain on cycle which is exactly why you can train so hard and get such gains.
I defintley downgrade them for there steroid use, just like I do vitali. Vitali tested postiivve for steroids.
So in other words, a fighter's legacy and track record is what sets the standard in fantasy matchups, and not necessarily his perceaved head to head ability? Hmmmmm..........I'll remember that
Well in my own opinion from what I judged on film, he is far from his brothers equal in the skill level and offensive department. I dont consider vitali close to a great fighter, nor do I consider his h2h ability very good. He is good, thats about it, I think he would lose to a good number of heavyweights throughout history.
Just for the record - last time i looked steroids were anything but great at strengthening strengthen ligaments (and tndons). They don't hytrophy like muscle. HGH may be a different matter. Many athletes and steroid users actually end up having a lot of trouble due to this.
You've got it back to front. Steroid use actually promotes injury due to what i said above. The tendons and ligaments have trouble keeping up with the new muscle growth. It's all got to be done very very precisely.
Ya thats fine, we are going to have to disagree on vitalis h2h ability. to me, he was very lumbering and uncoordinated, lacks fluid boxing skills, carries left too low, lacks top defensive skills, doesnt have the offensive tools his brother has. As far as intangibles, Vitali really does not have the attitude and mentallity of a champion, i question his heart and mental toughness in tough fights. Vitalis skills are also largely untested vs an in shape prime young contender. Sanders was 39 and way out of shape, lennox was 38 looked slow and lethargic weighed in heavies of his career, harpooned whale kirk johnson weighed in 25lb above his normal weight...... we just dont know how good vitali is. his career leaves question marks.
I agree completely, In fact, I think he sucks.. I just wanted to prove how badly flawed your approach was in respect to certain arguments.
If you're using something light such as Winstrol, sure. Anything remotely powerful, you're not going to injure yourself. If you keep lifting that heavy post cycle? Sure. Your body isn't going to be able to synthsize protein as well and promote muscle growth as quickly. Cycles last a set amount of weeks and then you begin a PCT. Like you said, it's specific and if done correctly you're not going to hurt yourself physically.
I'm not sure i agree still, the stronger and more effective the steroid the more discrepancy we have between new muscle strength and the ability of the tendons and ligaments to handle it.
You can stay on steroids for eight weeks at a time. That's a long time. In that span of time you lift as hard as you can and the body has a near superhuman ability to build muscle and adapt to anything you can throw at it. Your body builds the muscle, you ween yourself off with a good post cycle treatment, and you're set. Afterwards, yes... You have to slow down. You can't lift as heavy, but if you're not lifting AS heavy as you were on cycle, you're not even going to be tearing muscle to create new muscle. You're just trying to maintain your gains. If you weren't injuring yourself before the steroids you're not going to afterwards, as now you've got new muscle and you're lifting lighter right after you come off them. I'm not saying it's easy, I'm pretty knowledgable with the entire steroid scene though.
At the time, I thought the fight was very strange and confusing. It was hard to understand why Vitali quit. I thought his decision to quit reflected very poorly upon him and cast doubt on his future potential. Even so, I thought all the boxing magazines were ridiculous when they immediately dropped Vitali from the ratings after this fight. I thought the magazines were overreacting. To Vitali's credit, he came back and proved that the Byrd fight was just a fluke.
