Vitali was the far superior fighter and had nothing to prove. He chose more dangerous opponents and the fans were happy. End of story.

You say superior but Vitali has no win on his resume better than Chris Byrd so who are these more dangerous opponents ?

So that's more assumption on your part not backed up with evidence to support your argument that Vitali is superior.

The fact Vitali had alot of issues vs a fighter with 7 days to prepare with all the cards stacked against him doesn't lead me to believe Vitali is superior to a fully prepared Byrd.

Losing 2 mins of the round ? Vitali was pawing with his punches and got hit with a solid left hand from Byrd which was the most eye catching punch of those first 2 minutes. I dunno what you're seeing but it's not the same round I'm watching.

How can it not be a clear round ? It was Byrd's best objective round of the fight backing up the bigger man, out landing him, landing all the eye catching punches.

If that isn't Byrd's round then you must think he didn't win a single round in the fight because the 9th round was clearly Byrd's best round of the fight and I don't think it's a very debatable either to be quite frank.

But I'm not going to keep going over it you think what you like.

Your scorecard isn't bad there's nothing with 6-3 for Vitali the only issue I have with your scorecard is the 9th round because I thought that was clearly Byrd's best round of the fight.

So if you score that round for Byrd which I think a majority would then you would have it 5-4 for Vitali like me.

I think Byrd has a strong case to winning rounds 3, 5, 9, and there was 1 or 2 other close rounds so I don't think 6-3 or 5-4 for Vitali is the worst scorecard.

Vitali was landing punches throughout first 2 minutes not hard punches but decent punches while Byrd just covered up landed one decent straight and did nothing significant afterwards till last minute where he had some success but so did Vitali so a close round depending on what you value not a definitive round either way.
Didn't outland him Vitali landed more you can argue Byrd shots were better but that's debatable since Vitali landed some hard fight hands as well Byrd played them off well but they still landed.

There were 3 close rounds that could have gone either way 3, 5 and 9 rest were pretty clear Vitali but I favor Vitali landing more shots then Byrd landing less so I'd gave him most of those rounds maybe one I gave to Byrd but can't see any other rounds going to Byrd besides those 3.

Byrd is getting all the credit for taking the fight on short notice. Vitali was training for Razor Ruddock, a large easy target, not a slick southpaw. I may be wrong but I believe Byrd was also training for a scheduled fight, so he was in shape and ready. Both fighters were at a disadvantage IMO.

Not according to my eyes compubox is a notoriously bad source for punch stats but we can agree to disagree

The only 2 fighters you can argue that were better than Byrd were Lennox (duh) and Sanders (which is not a given as he was rated below him). He fought 9 times before he retired in 2005. Don't tell me the guys like Hoffman, Norris or Bean were dangerous, lol.

    Trolling is trolling

    Here's the reality reality.

209 pound Byrd got off the couch on a weeks notice , travelled to Germany and faced a giant he had never seen fight before. No footage was available to Byrd.

He literally devised his gameplan in the ring while Vitali was trying to knock his block off.

Vitali won rounds by virtue of a guy who was finding his bearings in the ring. Oh wow amazing.

Here's the hard reality - Byrd adapted , Vitali didn't. Vitali wasn't an adapter.

Byrd found his rhythm as Vitali was swatting punches at air while being countered to the body repeatedly.

You don't need to be a hard hitter to hurt someone to the body. Vitali was demoralized and exhausted after punching his socket of out joint. If we are to believe he had a serious injury.

The commentators at ringside didn't notice an injury until the quit job.

If that fight was a fluke win Vitali would have shown the same desperation to fight Byrd again as he shown to Sanders and Lewis.

Byrd said straight out that they (Universum) wanted him to fight Wlad instead.

Vitali went and fought Timmo Hoffman who was easier stylistically

Past prime Andrew Golota in 2004 whose shoulder was permanently injured in a terrible car crash - he did better than prime Vitali. We all know that Don King influenced "draw" was bunk.

So reality shows Vitali's performance wasn't even "superior" to an unable-to -jab , broken down Golota with a bum shoulder. :b1:

Team Vitali selected Byrd which means they done their homework and reviewed the footage that was available on HBO. Which was Byrd getting run through by Ike.

Byrd said there was no footage on Vitali , which means he went in there blind. So obviously one guy was far more disadvantaged than the other.

Cool so you had it pretty much what the official judges did 7-2 8-1. I think R7 was another close round which I gave to Byrd that could have gone to Vitali that being said.

I thought I was going insane on R9. I looked around and it seems most people agree with Dynamic Puncher think Byrd won the round though tbf.

I had it 5-4 Vitali at the stoppage. I felt had Vitali finished the fight on his feet, he'd have won a very controversial decision.

I know the immediately rematch didn't happen because Vitali was injured and the future option on Byrd was due to expire so he fought Wlad instead. Byrd wanted to wait for Vitali but the promoters had the option on him.

But then after that Vitali always held the opinion that he never really lost to Byrd, and it infuriated boxing fans at the time. It led to him having a reputation as being somewhat of a poor spirited fighter.

When he fought Lewis at short notice and refused to quit, then aggressively pursued the rematch he won some boxing fans back.

Vitali would probably have won a rematch, but he'd have looked bad doing it. He doesn't seem like a mentally weak person but he received some God awful advice with this saga.

I thought it was generally accepted the 9th round was Byrd's best round of the fight and that's also why Vitali got quite alot of stick at the time because he quit after Byrd was coming off his strongest round of the fight.

If you look online I think most people who scored the fight either closely like I did or a bit more widely for Vitali all pretty much had the 9th round for Byrd.

Now I'm not saying Vitali didn't have a legit injury but I'm also of the opinion that Byrd instigated the injury with his defence making Vitali punch at awkward angles. Remember Holyfield also had a shoulder injury after fighting Byrd aswell.

Sure I looked around right after our discussion like 95% said Byrd won that round as you said.
