This is a sad state of affairs. I thought we had seen the end of Byrd after his last defeat, which was painful to watch.

I was always an admirer of Byrd. In my opinion he could be good to watch - I could watch his fight with McCline and sit back in admiration at his skill.

I hope Byrd reconsiders and calls it a day.

well it's possible something was wrong his last fight (other than being totally "shot"). it's obvious that he wasn't near that "shot" at hw not too long before that. maybe he is totally f'd up, but i think it's at least possible that the dramatic weight loss is primarily responsible. whatever he does, he should see some doctors, take some time (i know he's 38 or 39) and he should probably consider cruiserweight.

Morgan Freeman was right. Hope is indeed a bad thing.

Dangerous. Very dangerous. Remember how Byrd's legs looked in his last fight? I understand that every man has the right to earn a living but this is one of those occasions in which there is clearly diminished capabilities present. Byrd has the look of a shot fighter and the reason why I liked Larry Hazzard so much is because he wouldn't budge when it came to keeping a guy like Byrd out of the ring. When Ron Scott Stevens put Holyfield on medical suspension I was ok with it. The fighters are always the last ones to let it go. These guys have families and they need to think of them. I understand that the fighters usually know nothing but boxing and have been doing it for most of their lives but eventually they have to accept that their careers are over. At least as legitimate contenders anyway.

This actually doesn't surprise me honestly. This guy got in the ring with Tua, Evander, Ike, Wlad twice, and VitKlitschko. He really made Lennox avoid him, and if anyone thinks I am joking, lennox admitted it. This guy has guts, let me tell you.

Seriously, Chris just needs to hang his gloves up. He doesn't need to fight at 175 to prove anything.

I remember Lennox saying something like "a Byrd has no place being in the ring with a lion." I thought that was pretty funny.

This doesn't seem such a good idea, but if Byrd fights on and wins a world title it'd be great.

Byrd is shot to hell. Even Vinny Maddalone might be able to KO him. Byrd must enjoy pain, LHW's with no power can KO him now.

They should let him fight with a helmet on in the interest of fairness.

Maybe the one Michael Katsidis wears to the ring.
