Clottey, hes bigger chalange and bigger threat. Cintron doesnt deserve a shot at the title, especialy after loosing that last fight ( yes he lost).
Clottey is a tougher fight for Cotto, I am all for that, It would be a great fight, with Cotto winning a 12 round decision,IMO
Kermit Cintron has been one of the top welterweights of the division, and besides the two losses to the recently outcasted Antonio Margarito, has never been beaten. With this said, in his last fight versus Sergio Martinez, Cintron looked like a fighter who is not elite. He could not adjust to the style of Martinez. He also, once again, showed that he has a bad habit of losing his concentration - complaining to the referee during the fight. His record, although solid at 30 (27 KO) - 2 (KO) -1, is not that impressive when you look at the names in his resume. Besides Sergio Martinez and Antonio Margarito, Cintron has not really fought elite fighters. Joshua Clottey, on the other hand, looks as a more respectable opponent. He has a solid record of 35 (20 KO) - 2. The names on his resume include Zab Judah, Antonio Margarito, Carlos Baldomir, and Diego Corrales. His losses, unlike Cintrons', have also not been destructive as he has never been KO'd. Moreover, one of those losses could have been caused by a broken hand (during the fight against Antonio Margarito). In conclusion, to add to Clottey's case, he is a current champion and I'm sure that Cotto wants to be champion once again. Cintron is only a contender at this point and might have even lost his elite status in his last fight. A fight with Cintron, although showcasing two Puerto Rican fighters in Madison Square Garden might attract lots of money, is not right for Cotto and his fans. A fight with Shane Mosley (if he wins his next fight) will then guarantee a unification between the WBA, IBF, and Ring titles.
Cotto vs Clottey=Better fight Cotto vs Cintron= Much more entertaining if you enjoy Kermit Cintron's fragile psyche constantly getting raped.
