Never shook Marciano's hand, but sat 3 feet away from him while he sparred in Sullivan County. I could still hear the sounds of thuds, whilst Rocky landed on his sparring partners body. Never shook his hand ,but I felt his sweat sprayed on us. Does that count ?
This might be of interest : Just before Ray Robinson turned pro in 1940,my dad and uncle took me to Ridgewood Grove to see the Golden Gloves semi-finals. And young Ray Robinson was in the corner of the Salem Crescent boxing team which [Walker Smith] Ray Robinson represented when he was the GG champion. Even though he didn't turn pro yet, His name was on every boxing fan's lips, so highly regarded was he,even before he turned pro. At the end of the last bout my dad, my uncle and I walked over to shake his hand, where there was several people before us. The guy before me, shook Ray's hand and said , " Ray, when you become champ, buy me a drink ". Robinson, then shot back, " When I do, I'll buy you two ". First rap boxing artist !. True story. Then later on I saw him in his WW prime against Armstrong, McDaniels , Turpin, etc. Greatest fighter I ever saw, hands down...Cheers...
Frazier, Bugner, Norton, Mustafa Muhummad, Bonecrusher, Rose, Famechon, Michael, Stevie Johnson, KT, Fenech.
Not if someone get's indocrinated in boxing as a tot...I saw Jack Johnson "perform" in a Carnival in NY,a few years before he was killed in a car accident, driving speedily to the Louis / Conn rematch. When we got home my dad told me all about Lil Arthur....
Surf, I was an example of what GB Shaw said, "It's a shame that youth is wasted on the young ". Of all the top boxing cards I saw in MSG and beyond, I never thought to save the ticket stubs for posterity. The only one that I saved and still have is the stub of the Robinson/ Turpin bout at the old Polo Grounds in 1951 . A night to remember, as I and my buddy sat about 12 rows or so behind Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Oh well !.
Burt you are amazing and I love the fact you are on this forum, but you really are seriously and obviously biased and there's no getting around that, but it's fine

I,pray tell me my "bias".? Before I give my opinion, I mull it over in my mind to be as objective as possible. If my opinions don't conform with yours,so be it. So what is my bias that U find so objectionable ? Remember IT, I just might be correct...Cheers.
