Dougie, the picture you have posted of poor Carmine Vingo, brutally beaten and aided by Freddy Brown, brings a shudder to me..I was sitting about 25 feet away from this scene Dec. 30, 1949 at MSG. The crowd that was screaming a few minutes before, were now holding their breath, not knowing if Carmine Vingo, woukd die, [ala Ernie Schaff ]. He was rushed to Polyclinic Hospital across the street from old MSG, where he thank God ,eventually pulled through..How vividly that scene remains with me, after all these years..b.b.
i can imagine burt...even the picture is shocking... remember those videos of the man on youtube i follow, that i posted in the bits and pieces thread ??....he also speaks in one of his videos about being there at the fight too... didnt the crowd sing 'let me call you sweetheart' ?
Dougie, I cant remember any singing prior to the fight. Especially' Let me call you sweetheart ".The fight and horrible ending blotted out any other events,on the undercard... P.S. I would love to know any name or info of the man you posted on,from youtube...Wow would we have lots to talk about...Any info ? b.b.
Here is a couple of my autographs I have on classic "Ring" magazine covers My Hagler autograph........ This content is protected My Duran autograph....... This content is protected
also burt...i notice he puts a video up every two months, so he may not be a regular computer user...so, i may have to wait to get a response. i'm sure with the amount of people posting on youtube that there may be people like him, of that age, who speak about memories of watching boxing....but, i cant find any...not sure what search terms to use....love listening to memories like that though. for anyone interested in listening to this man burt and myself are discussing, his boxing memories are in the first post here... http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261937&page=2 .
