Great photo Rocky, of Luis Angel Firpo. A snorting wild bull on two legs. What fear he instilled in opponents when he first came to America. I try to envision a fighter of later times who most resembled his fighting style. Couldn;t think of a heavyweight, but the young pre-Zale Graziano, comes to my mind. Both right hand flame-throwers, whose only defense was an offense. Rocky was better looking though...Cheers,R.
Yep, Dougie,Oscar Bonavena would be a good choice as a heavyweight fighter, but Graziano ,as Firpo, had truly right hand's only. Argentina fighters are as a class, tough GOUCHOS! Sidenote Doug- Has there ever been a better matchup of THE WILD BULL OF THE PAMPAS versus THE MANASSA MAULER ?These two nicknames were a publicist's delight.Cheers D...

Dougie, great photos you posted. I was at a few of these bouts. Look at the forearms of Stanley Ketchel, who all the oldtimers called the greatest middleweight of them all. He was certainly the best looking 160 pouinder... MORE DOUG.
12 years old I reckon he was here - still looks (even at 12 years old!!) every inch the classic champion he go on to become - I love this picture - you wonder whether he even had any inkling of what was to come in his future - kinda poignant picture really - it really sucks what's happened to that little kid :?
