Yeah, and this whole "only idiots believe size matters"-brigade would literally **** their pants if people picked Canelo to beat Marciano.

So they do believe size matters, just that the gods mercifully made it stop matter around the weight of their favourite fighters.

All else being equal, a small fighter who beats a bigger fighter is greater than the bigger fighter.

And a great fighter always beats a less great fighter.

So as long as you're smaller, and beat somebody larger than yourself during your career, you will never lose a fantasy fight. Small heavyweights are invincible.

    QED.

Probably a bit sick of me to enjoy this as much as I do, but I just can't help myself.

I’d favor Liston, Holmes, Ali, Tyson, Wlad, Vitali, Lewis, Fury, (tentatively) Usyk and Louis. That’s only 11.

But then there are many fights that are near even money like Holyfield, Povetkin, Witherspoon, Foreman, Joshua, Wilder, Ibeabuchi, Ruddock, Tubbs, Michael Spinks, Charles, Dempsey, and Norton so his spot isn’t very clear cut.

Achievements is like 50-60 % of the equation, then I look at H2H and impact.

    Shavers's best KOs were:
    - Ken Norton;
    - Jimmy Ellis, who was only 199 lbs, and for which Shavers could have been DQed (for holding Ellis' head with the left and then uppercutting)
    and
·Joe Bugner, which ended on a cut.
Thus his reputation as a big puncher doesn't really add up. Norton is the only one that can be somewhat comparable to the 90s HWs
In other words: Once you ignore funny quotes and legends it turns out that Shavers was considered a dangerous KO'er based on KO'ing mainly cruisers (sub-200 opponents). Once you check his performance against genuine heavyweights 215+ lbs (= what-we-nowadays-consider-heavyweights) it turns out Shavers would indeed be a featherfist by today's standards: 11 KOs in 23 fights.

I rate Liston way higher, cause he was far far more skilled, thus he had the ability to apply his power effectively. I also think he was a bigger puncher and that he beat bigger men on average.

    Please do.

Actually, that's only 10. You're not very good at math. :p
But Louis does not belong on this list for me. Bowe poleaxes him. Bowe is vulnerable to boxers that can dart in and out and out-point/out-hit him (Ali type), and boxers who can slug it out with him and hit him more (Tyson, Lewis etc). Louis can't do either.
So you're only left with 9, but it's not a given they beat him.

Bowe is still favorite though. So he ranks in front.

Nah. I pick bigger fighters all the time. I just don't do it because they're bigger.

If you aren't one of those I'm referring to you really have no need to worry.

No Canelo is a great. One of my favourite fighters right now the way he has no qualms facing the best in multiple divisions.

Plus my favourite fighter are Hamed, Eubank and Bruno. So that's quite a weight disparity for your comment. 126 up to 246

I responded to a post about Valuev and Schmelling. I didn't mention Braddock once.

So actually there is some mystery.

The mods deleted Frazier from my post.

Louis beat 20+ contenders. Bowe beat two or three not counting Golota.

What about when the smaller heavyweight is “greater” and more accomplished?
