Hey! I'm nicking some credit here - I picked Calzaghe and Kessler to find themselves even after the first half of the fight (i had them 3-3) before Joe uses experience to identify a new fight plan (he flumoxed me by doing this much earlier) to find weakness to shift into a higher gear. I never for one second thought he would out-jab Kessler though. And I didn't think body-punching would be such a big factor. Kessler slowed down late and no mistake. What a very great fight.
To be fair I did strongly emphasise Calzaghes ability to switch styles in my prediction. Respect for Kessler.
talk about relief atsch (that is meant as a sigh) Joe's head movement was one of the important factors to victory, it allowed him to get in range and fire off punches in bunches, although i thought his handspeed has noticeably slowed
I think i edged you out under cross-examination, but indeed you did. No ****. He was great. When he started to deliver uppercuts in round 4, i thought he would win, I thought he had the right plan. Fair play Joe.
Calzaghe was a worthy winner, I would say 116-112 was about right. Kessler done well with straight rights and uppercuts. But Calzaghe's fluid style outscored Kessler. He was busier and got off with more ease.
I think if you made a list of the 12 best single shots, 8 or 9 would belong to Kessler. I had it closer than 16-12, I had it 15-13 which is actually closer than anyone i've talked to.
I never enjoy watching a british fighter in a major title fight against a foreigner Joe's too old to be p4p No 1 now, he's not as sharp as he once was i thought Kessler was either overawed or just mentally beaten by the 8th round, take nothing away, it was a tremendous win
I don't think he had any to begin with. Calzaghe fought the perfect fight, and won. It was a multi-dimensional fighter outclassing a one dimensional fighter. But I do give Kessler much credit for the way he fought, he has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
Ban JT from all classic discussions. Not really, but it is an idea lol My contribution to classic forum discussion.
Nah, no hard feelings, John... chances are we've done it before lol I still respect your stuff... so I didn't think much of it.
I told everyone for weeks that Calzahge-Lacy would be a war. I never expected a one-sided @ss-whipping. I got it wrong again...
