Afolabi doesn't really seem to have a big punch, judging by his record, but that was clean and hard and right on the button. Bam.
no doubt about it.but enzo was hurt wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before that:bbb
Maccarenelli looked overtrained - there was no zap in him from the get go. He normally is very fit with lots of stamina. For example the first Mark Hobson fight was a tough non stop 12 round battle - but Enzo had the raw fitness for that - but here he seemed lerthagic and slow and jaded. Maybe he overtrained. Or maybe he was too into his new weight training and neglected his road work and basic fitness.
Flint even you're gonna have to pipe down on the excuses now..... 3 KO defeats. One at domestic level, one at world level and now another one at a level I'm not even sure of......Euro level???
Like the David Haye loss and now this one - the only way for true redemption is rematch. That is a fight I think Maccarenelli would be motivated to take and fight on. Why not? He was winning the fight got knackered and put his chin in the air was was KO'd. A rematch would be good. But I think a different preparation is needed. A new fresh training camp. Maybe even go away somewhere. He looked physically jaded in there. His preparation must of been wrong. Once again the question has to be asked - why has Enzo had no quality sparring? Camp Calzaghe are amateurs. He needs to go out down the gyms in London and find some rough durable Heavys / Crusiers to spar with - proper sparring - proper preparation - better performance. I dont care if you run 6 miles a day and do press ups and sit ups and punch the heavy bag - if you dont get quality sparring its gonna show when you are fighting a better quality of fighter as he was last night.
He didn't look or sound much like he wanted to go on boxing when the questions were asked about what next......
Flint is right. Last night you saw the difference in smarts between a guy that spars everyday at the Wildcard Gym, has sparred the likes of James Toney, against a guy that routinely spars with Kerry Hope. It's a miracle what Joe Calzaghe did.
Flint and TFFP are right. An experienced fighter should have known a right was coming there. Look where Enzo's arms are when the punch connect - both round about his waist. Enzo Cal is a joke who struck lucky.
Enzo Maccarinelli was exposed again. Anyone who really thinks he was winning the fight then all I can say is that we were watching a different fight. In a rematch Anglo-Nigerian Ola Afolabi will stop him earlier. You saw the difference between a guy brought the proper quality sparring no padded record against a protected fighter for a lot of his career. As for Enzo Calzaghe what is there left to say really. No excuses please the better fight won conclusively.
He's never been genuinly world level. For a boxer so limited he has done very well for himself: He's been able to call himself a "world champion", and claim himself to be number one and two in the division. He was 1/20 on to win last night. It wasn't just a lucky punch either he got starched earlier.
You would have to be a serious fool to put any money on Enzo at those odds. As soon as I heard the reports coming out of the US about this guys style I reversed my pick to an Enzo UD. As it was he couldn't even manage that after throwing hayemakers all over the guys arms instead of settling for points. A horrible night at the office for him. KO'd in his last 2 fights at cruiser now. Settling for a career at Euro level will be tough.
I'm sure Haye caught him with a similar huge punch after ducking Enzo's jab also... the GIF of it used to be in Sleezenations sig... I could be wrong though...
he was winning on the cards, of course not because he wasoutboxing or out husltign him but becuase wale was bothered to do nish and wait what happend. but your right it has to do with sparring, he is mixing in with good amatuers and prospects but thats not who he wants, he needs good strong vets who will push him but not able to beat him up. where is is hands he seemed to throw that right hand before he know what he was trying to hit...almost like he was punching a punching bag but the bag wasnt there. meaning that he knew the bag was in that direction calzaghe i think has done a good job with him he has some quick hands and has a solid guard but no real tech boxing skills. if the newbridge clan become more open to other gyms and invite good levelers then it would work they seem to be doing everything together. just isnt the way...it has never been like that. the kronk gym had a few gyms in the area which it rivaled. same with all the philly gym wars. also anyone see bradly pryce get starchedatsch
yeah stepping double jab then wham haye catches him when his shoulder isnt covering his chin.right hand still follows by macca. then comedic left hook
Enzo needs to fight again within 2 months, and then 2 months after, then fight someone in the WBO top 10, then top 5, then get an eliminator, then world title fight. He is 6 fights - 2 years away from a title ****. good luck to him.
