Classic Match-Ups: Thinking out of the Box

We always have fantastic threads/posts about classic match ups but always see the same fights mentioned that never happened and differing outcomes.

So thought what about a thread that looks for posters to think out of the box, Asking posters what fighters do you think could shock a legend from days gone by or even now. How controversial will you be? and how can you back up your claim.

So name a legend, then put the guy down who you believed could of been that legends bogeyman.

Example like the other days thread that someone made asking the following question..

Foreman vs Haye (obviously wasn't prime Foreman, but hope you catch my drift of what the threads asking :good)

Look forward to some shock choices, off to think of mine..

 

Old Foreman? Not sure what you are getting at but sense a good thread....

So basically matchups of fighters you think could beat widely respected/highly rated fighters?

 

This is a toughie. I can think of examples but can't really justify 'em.

Let me rack my brains.

 

Duran vs Ishida... Louis vs Lewis is one i think would be one sided for Lennox. Also Roy Jones vs Froch.. I just think Carl wouldve knocked him out in the late rounds.

 

Yeah basically it's a match up where you believe a shock would/could be made.

The Haye one's just a example cos it's from a thread someone made the otherday.

Amir Khan would have the movement and faster hands to stifle, nullify, and wear down Tsuyoshi Hamada for a wide points win. If he gets out of the first round, which will be perilous.

 

I'll take 'em closer to their best at 147 and say Forrest is a horrible matchup for Floyd.

 

Would Herol Graham frustrating the hell out of Hagler be one?

I'd have Khan to stop a prime Hatton @ 140 as well.

Don't think too many 'shocks' have been posted thus far, rather justifiable classic match ups.

 

I think Khan of now vs Prime Hatton would of been 100mph!

 

I would say the most out of the box I could think would be Ricky Burns winning a decision over Alexis Arguello, based on the fact he could stifle Alexis with movement and has the durability to last the duration.

Few problems with tha though.

-Burns isn't as educated/fluent a mover as Vilomar Fernandez
-He can't combine funtional movement with poppy puncches to dissuade Arguello as JL Ramirez did
-He backs up in straight lines
-He has been buzzed by Martinez
-He's not effective enough offensively that even going backwards he would not let Arguello time him

Effectively unwinnable for Burns, but he is a contemporary British example of someone that, on paper would match up well with a great of the highest calibres stylistic fallacy.

Not enough though.
