I'm not disagreeing with you for the sake of it. Quartey beat Lopez convincingly. He boxed his head off, round after round, and smacked him occasionally with the right hand down the pipe. Lopez hardly got into the fight apart from the very late rounds when he dropped Quartey. His punch output was terrible. I guess Lopez coming forward impressed the judges, because he sure couldn't have been impressing them with his hands.
Lopez had Quartey badly hurt early on (couple knockdowns) if I remember correctly? Reason I said Lopez was because he was a crackhead who could punch really hard.
I dont hate Cotto, he`s not one of my favourites tho... he throws a decent variety of punches & has ok boxing ability, good power also.... but my God, he is one slow *******, he better get that sorted before fighting a Pacquiao or Mayweather or he could look very foolish at times.
You know, the special thing about Cotto is that he is an excellent momentum puncher and counterpuncher. He is able to offset speedy guys like Mosley, Judah, and Corley, because he has excellent timing. This is the type of thing a young Mike Tyson could do so well, but Tyson had much more speed, so it was done in combinations. Cotto may not be as quick, but his timing right now is very very good, thats why he has done so well against many styles.
He only hurt Quartey during the late rounds. Dropped him twice, the 11th and 12th rounds if memory serves me correctly. Apart from that, it was more or less a shut out for Quartey.
Just looked he was down in the 2nd and 11th round. Lopez was actually a good fighter, he just had bad drug problems.
