Mayweather will "win" but it won't be entertaining and it will mean very little, having defeated a middle age opponent. I am sure much of the media will read far too much into yet another convenient match-up for Mayweather. If he is an all-time great, it's time for me to follow another, more interesting, sport.
Mosley has to make a brawl out of it, otherwise I don't see him having much of a chance. At this point he's still a strong fighter with power in his combinations but I do not think he matches Mayweather for speed or technique. Now Mosley is known as a quick combination puncher, even at his current age, but Mayweather's speed in single punches, timing and reflexes are going to make a difference. Mosley should try to take the fight to Mayweather in the clinches and against the ropes, but one has to wonder whether he has the tools to put Mayweather in those situations and take advantage of them. He's getting up there in age and was never a technical wizard. I recently watched Mayweather vs Emmanuel Augustus, then Burton, and as silly as it may sound I believe that's the type of a fight Mosley should fight. He has to absorb some punishment and really force the issue from the opening bell, even at the risk of being stopped. In that case the fight could turn out to be entertaining, possibly at the expense of Mosley, but it may be that Mosley simply lacks the tools and Mayweather has it too easy for it to be an exciting, competitive match-up.
Mosleys workrate, footwork, jab, defense, countering need to be on top form for him to win. Some of those hes not too hot on usually and they'll need improve for this fight. He could just time a massive punch and score a KO, you never know in boxing. Mosley needs to force the fight and not let it be a slow paced boxing match, he needs to make it rough, he needs Mayweather on the ropes, make him negative Mayweathers the favourate for good reason, his footwork/defense/timing/technique should see him win
I think youre right, but I dont think Richardson thinks this way. I think he will try to get Mosley to box a very strategic fight, which I think will fail by the fifth round, and then we will see Mosley fight in this way and like you said, at his expense it will end spectacularly.
Mayweather UD I will be rooting for Mosley but I think he is better suited for picking off aggressive fighters like Margarito at this stage in his career; walking down Floyd isn't happening but he'll probably get better shots in than most.
Floyd by decision here. I'm surprised at the number of people picking Mosley here, Shane is one of my favorites of today but Margo was the perfect matchup for him at this stage due to the fact he was SOOOO slow. That's what Shane has lost, he's lost his speed. However against Margarito it didn't matter because he was still faster, that's not the case here. I see Floyd winning a 8-4, possibly even 9-3 type decision here. He's going to make Mosley look very old.
I cant see Mosley winning this as much as I want him to. Mayweather is too smart and his defense is up there with the best in boxing history. Mayweather by UD.
Personally I'd pick SSM in his prime over Mayweather but not at this stage of his career. That said if SSM can hurt Floyd that would be the deciding factor in the fight and SSM might be able to pull it off. More than anything I would like to see Mayweather forced to actually fight, rather than box and see how he does under this type of pressure.
Mosley has a powerful hook, and can back up lighter hitting boxer punchers. If Mayweather has a weakness, he doesn't like to trade punches when backed in the corners or on the ropes, and doesn't seamlessly transition from offense to defense when he's under attack. This is Mosely's advantage. Most boxer punchers without top end power have the same weakness vs swarming attacking type of fighters who hit harder. Although Mosely is 38, he was super charged by Balco lab substances, and looks a lot younger physically. His reflexes do not look like a old welter / jr middle out of his prime to me either.
