You can't count out Nard but he was badly shaken there last night a couple of time, especially in the 12th and if Pascal had been more composed he could have taken him out. Nard is saying he is going to be exciting now until he retires so if he is true to his word a fight with Cleverly should be good.
If you watched the fight, & I assume you have seen it, i think only a member of the Calzaghe family would have expected Calzaghe to get the decision. Point still stands though, Hopkins dealt with Calzaghe, so how the hell does Cleverly use the same style to beat him? Nathan is not near Joe's class!
yes. I posted my assessment on Hopkins last week in here, you know what my opinion is on him, he can deal with all styles but speed can trouble him. I wouldn't say that Cleverley is particularly rapid. All that swarming that Cleverley does won't **** Hopkins off too much, he's a master of slowing down the pace of a bout with his positioning. Hand speed is a problem for him and that's about it really in my opinion.
Right, if Hopkins doesnt get a close decision v Calzaghe, the question still applies...how does Clev beat him with that style?
I'm not even sure what you're question is now, if Hopkins lost (which he did) it's like a double negative question .....
I had it 114-113 Calzaghe. Both men troubled each other with footwork, hence why they basically cancelled each other out. Hopkins more accurate but hardly any work. Calzaghe threw more but was inaccurate and sloppy. A chess match, and hard to score IMO.
It's been 3 years since the Calz fight, Hopkins is older and likely less athletic and less stamina, Clev would not allow the fight to be fought at such a low pace which Pascal allowed, Clev has actually mentioned B-hop in an interview after their respective fights so here's hoping it gets made somewhere down the line so I can be proved right :rofl:rofl:roflnutrofl:rofl
Yes, very difficult to score, as in one of the hardest. On the point you make about footwork, I thought that in the rounds that Hopkins won he absolutely schooled Calzaghe more or less footwork exclusively. But Calzaghe scrapped his way back into it and earned his decision with grit and determination, I can't knock him, I would never kick off about the decision. I just like to keep a record of how I score close fights such as this one and Oscar-Ike etc, and as I say I do have it for Hopkins.
