Gutsy fighter who achieved more than he should have. He had strong opposition. Did so well due to the mandatory challenger policy of the IBF more than anything else.
good luck Clinton, the working class hero with a fantastic working class career. a nicer bloke one could not wish to meet, very good ambassador for the sport, his attitude, work ethic the way he changed his life around, all the best Clint.
I don't think anyone could not respect or like Clinton Woods. A top pro gave made the most of his career and gave it the dedication it deserves. Richie Woodhall and Clinton Woods are like peas in pod.
The man stepped in there with some very good fighters and also true greats of the game. Yes, Woods should enjoy his well earned retirement from the game. Credit to him for never hiding.
Great example to kids who may not be flash, who may not be naturally gifted in the sport. Keep working hard and you can achieve big! Won basically everything we get into the sport for. Well deserved retirement.
Definitely a well deserved retirement. Clinton Woods can go out of the sport with his head held high - willing to fight the best at any place any time, the heart of a lion and was a credit to British Boxing :thumbsup
lasting 6 rounds with a prime RJJ, 36 gruelling rounds with Glen Johnson, 24 rounds with JC Gonzalez, competitive with future great Cloud. Enjoy retirement, you earned it!
One of the truly worst British world Champions in history .. Such a predictable, 'domestic' style , hard working but lacking any kind of skill. All this, 'Thanks for the memories Clinton' stuff from you guys makes me want to vomit .. He should have retired after that abysmal display against Tarver .. Theres people on this forum who slag off Hatton, Calzaghe, Khan, Bruno, Naz and Froch but give a guy like Clinton Woods all the credit in the world, its an absolute joke. Just another example of the Brits loving a 'try hard' with no skill .. I have full respect for Clinton Woods as i do for anybody who gets in the ring, but he was a domestic level fighter who picked up a belt in a weak, 'ultra political' division. Any top light Heavyweight in history would absolutely annihilate him with ease .. Im not sorry he's retired, he's picked up some good paydays in his career for the talent that he had, kind of like Junior Witter ...... As i say, this post sounds harsh, but once again i have full respect for Clinton Woods but he wasnt a great fighter ..
lol, u mug - you can say hes crap, hes not the best fighter in the world, but he had some balls!!!! if you think hes crap, you shouldn't say it, coz hes a good man, and deserves respect... fair play to Clinton, said he would retire if he lost and stuck to his word!!
Yeah, whatever. Fair play for him realising he's absolutely balls deep in rubbishness and couldn't fight out of a wet paper bag. Clinton "I coulda been a contender" Woods. Have mercy. And I'm not doubting he's a nice guy either.
That last comment is just so typical of our British mentality, your saying as a positive, 'Richie Woodhall and Clinton Woods are like peas in a pod' .. I would totally agree, but its in a totally negative way. Its the same kind of mentality that drools over Henry Cooper's career as if he was an all time great .... Too many people confuse, 'being a nice guy who tries hard', with being a guy with true boxing talent ...... We Brits dont like winners, we dont like talent, we seem to need to bring talented people down. While treating the truly average, no skill, 'try hards' like they are heroes to be emulated ...... If Cooper, Woods and Woodhall were American, the American public would be rather more truthful
I remember a guy Telling me Clint would do well to win an Area Title way Back. So He didnt do too Bad at all. I will say He is a great Guy always has been, hope He gets some Fishing in now He deserved all He worked For, Axel youre an Arsehole.
