Purely on jab, I rate Holmes, Louis, Ali, Liston, Terrell, Douglas and Thomas ahead of Foreman for having better jabs. They did more with it. More effective.

But for sheer force of impact Foremans was the hardest.

Do non-heavies possess this new weapon, this "jab" strike?

Thomas may as well of had no jab when he got battered to a pulp against Tyson. It was just totally ineffective . So was Williams and Larrys jab against Tyson.

Mike had a great fear of Foreman and wanted no part of him , partly because of the jab.

BG could neglect the right hand completely and use his jab as a power punch . He hooked off it , uppercutted off it, forgmarched guys into the turn buckle with it.
Doesn't get more effective than that.

Wlad would come along later and rewrite the history of the jab, exploding its previously considered potential.

I read that Sonny Liston came to him in a dream and said "Turn the fist 34.23531 degrees champ," and that's how he invented the jab 4.0

Except Wlad didn't have any jab.

What he had , was an outward poked tree trunk arm and a host of non athletic bums that walked straight into it.

Amazingly there are people out there who believed they were looking at an ATG jab .. :nut:....

The piston-like jab started and ended with the industrial revolution.
Wlad has more of a Hard Drive jab.

Tyson was so effective at countering jabs. He even used the best jabs out there as a way to get inside. He countered his way in on the blind side while The guy was jabbing. That’s how fast he was.

Williams had a beautiful jab. And Tyson used it to counter him into a one punch knockout.

What threw Tyson was the feints and stutterstep Douglas threw at him. As Douglas feinted he made space to lure Tyson onto his counter jabs and combinations.

It’s not that Douglas’ jab was better than Williams or Thomas’ jabs he just had the piece of the puzzle that made a jab effective against Tyson. Nobody else did.

Foreman would have been dead meat against Tyson. Far to slow. If Bruno could not get off his jab against Tyson there is no way 43 year old George is.

It was incredible that night wasnt it Birmingham? And that was up against a very serious intense fit Cooney who was there to fight and win.Sadly drink and rustious inactivity had taken away a lot...but this wasnt the fat lazy slob cooney of 1987....no i beleive this cooney would have knocked spinks out in one round....and foremsn himself was made to look a whipping boy at times so sharp was Gerry...but at the end of the first round as soon as Cooney tasted 2 consecutive hard brick like prodding jabs ...i dont think he knew what hit him...
