He was scared of the speed last night. There was a moment where Manny turned counter-puncher and let Clottey lead and Pac just swarmed the **** out of him and shook him.
Because he didn't even try to win. It was a dreadful showing for a top fighter in the division. At least Cotto made an effort and actually looked competitive for a few rounds. Cotto > Clottey.
Sorry, Clotey had his big time chance and he didn't go for it, take it. No great disrespect to him, he did OK, sort of, but to hold him up as some kind of total warrior for what he did, is beyond ludicrous and says an awful lot about the state of the game today.
Saw his facebook earlier and some of his Countrymen ain't happy with him to say the least. "SIMPLY JOSHUA CLOTTEY IS A BIG SHAME TO ME,THIS FIGHT WAS FIXED AND HE TOOK THE MONEY INSTEAD OF BEING A MAN A HOLDING UP THE RED,GOLD,GREEN WITH THE BLACK STAR"""""
His countrymen are ****ing idiots then. Dont get me wrong, I was disappointed with Clottey BUT I can understand why he did what he did. As the Ishy man said before me, it was Pacs speed that Clottey simply couldnt deal with, & Clottey put the earmuffs on. Its easy for fans to say "Clottey should have opened up, it was his big chance" etc... but come on. Clottey is a beast of a fighter himself, so for him to fight so negatively? just shows once again how great the Pacman is. Clottey knew he was getting blown away if he went for it, so unlike Hatton & Cotto? He decided he was in too deep & adjusted accordingly, & lives to fight another day. Compare that to Hatton who 'went for it' & chased Pac down, hes now facing early retirement. Clottey had a decision to make, & although it was bad for the paying public, it was the RIGHT decision. He know he was no match for arguably the greatest fighter of all time in pacman & left with his faculties intact. Theres just no accounting for Manny, hes a freak of nature. Of course the smart posters on this forum know it, but these facebook bozos dont know their boxing if the think Clottey should have opened up & got blown away. The 'casual fan' never ceases to amaze me with their stupidity.
Nah, I don't like to see fighters roll over, not saying Clotty did, but I think it fair to say he didn't overly press himself to make a fight of it. At the end of the day, I am neither Clottey's career planner nor accountant, I'm just a punter as we all are.
I feel for the guy Dunky. His Facebook is full of idiots even idiots trying to tell him how to box. All fans with a real knowledge knew Josh has a style that doesn't give him chance to counter punch and that his style was never going to really prevail over a speedy fighter like Pacquaio. I got respect for Josh, Ok maybe he didn't try to win fight when he was actually doing well but what i find funny is Hatton gets called a idiot and a bum when he charges out and goes to war with Pacquiao yet when someone try's to soak up pressure and use his normal style he's also a idiot and a bum and shouldn't fight on big stage again.
I don't like seeing boxers get really beat up, but Clotty was never even close to putting himself in a position to be. In fact, Pac was far more "beat up" in that fight.
If anyone put it on the line in that fight and got "beat up" it was Pac, he layed it on the line and put himself in a position to get hit. If you look at the pics, he's more than a bit of a mess, there is not a mark on Clotty.
Well FB is a bit like YT and The Lounge in here. At the end of the day, personally, I like to see two fighters who come with the intention to win, no matter what and fight. I just don't think that's the kind of fight, I saw that last night. Still, it's history now though... lots of decent fights to come.
Jon, did you not see the vicious bodypunching that Clottey was having to soak up round after round? Pac was mixing it up good, Clottey was guarding his chin well but everything else was taking a pounding. Clottey just happens to be so tough mentally & physically that he made it look as if he was cruising, but he would have been hurting real bad. THATS why he wasnt throwing caution to the wind. He knew he was outsped & outgunned. He was feeling the bodyshots, he just kept the guard up & toughed it out. Why? Cos its all he could do if he didnt want to leave the ring on a stretcher.
