"J.S: You feel the other welterweights have been avoiding you?

J.C: Exactly, they are all scared. They all give their excuses. I don't get it when they say I don't bring anything to the table. I'm a very exciting fighter and I have a world title! I want my promoters to put me on the big stage and I want to fight the very best. But I'm stuck, and I don't know when I'm going to fight again, even though I am the world champion. This is why I really like and respect Joe Calzaghe. He had all the American fighters talking trash about him, saying the same thing they say about me [not bringing anything to the table]. But he came over to America and beat the top guys. I love the way Calzaghe fights. He is my number-one favourite fighter."

People seemed to have glossed over this. I'm a fan of both fighters. I think they're skills are excellent. But I also realize that many on this forum hate on Calzaghe, in particular. Just curious if this statement will affect anyone's opinion of Joshua Clottey.

Yep, Calzaghe is a great fighter, that's why so many here hate his guts.

.......Not exactly good propoganda for anyone to have Clottey endorse them. The guy has the personality of a B-movie thug.

That's the difference between Calzaghe and Clottey. Calzaghe came to America and beat every American opponent while Clottey lost to a top American.

    Dumb logic.

Great fighters often receive commendation and are held in high esteem by boxing fans, analysis and critics alike. Less than great fighters don't receive the same overwhelming support.

If boxings fans hate great fighters please explain why the vast majority hold such greats as Ali, Joe Louis, Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez, Marciano, Willie Pep, Hagler, Frazier, Ray Leonard, Hearns, Archie Moore, Jake Lamotta, Marco Antonio Barrera, RJJ, Holmes, Billy Conn - and the list goes on - to a higher standard and praise from both fan and critic?

    Those who believe Cal

I remember not too long ago that American sports writers and boxing fans used to **** on Lennox Lewis pretty bad and refused to give him any credit for anything yet guys like Riddick Bowe were considered great. It didn't seem until after he retired that peoples opinions of him over here eased up. I wonder if the same will happen with Calzaghe?

I don't care about Calzaghe at all. just think it's sad we don't get to see Clottey fight more.. there should be Clottey vs Cotto, PW or the winner of Mosley/Margarito ! he's a good fighter and would bring trouble to all of them. bring it on
