Channel 5 should never have dropped him. His matchmaking was absolutely on point, his shows always had an absolute war on. They were really great to watch. The sad thing is, it felt like the word was just starting to get out about how good his shows were when they switched to Wasserman. I had friends who casually watch boxing talking about the channel 5 fights at work.A shame because with more exposure / funds you wonder how much that could of grown. Not seen a decent fight on C5 since
Hearn walked away from a lot of these. He had Price, Clarke and Whitaker signed. To the extent Whitaker did promos for matchroom all recorded to release. Boxxer offered him obscene money for essentially 10 fights whereby he will fight nobody and it offers nothing to a show outside of the debut. Will be interesting how deep everyone’s pockets are. Ben Shalom has been removed as the majority shareholder at boxxer so will be interesting if the other back let’s him keep burning money.
But besides shields vs Marshall the fact sky is putting on headliners like riakporhe vs turchi and CBS vs the last knock over is shocking and if anything those fights should still have been undercard fights. We are about to get Okolie vs Riakporhe likely on PPV which again is nuts
i have to admit sonny im a big fan of okolie i think he will win a belt at heavyweight i cant see anybody beating him at cruiserweight its a fantastic fight very interesting i agree not a pay per view most of these fights are crap that are on pay per view
Some of the fights Mick Hennessey had on Channel 5 was amazing and we must remember that the budget was low.
to be fair, Wasserman Boxing has had some good fights on Channel 5. Their first main event was excellent.
It depends what route they both go down. If Okolie beats one of the other world champions and Riakporhe wins a world title, then it’s PPV worthy imo. They could create a good build up for this as well.
Still a director but not majority. Also people can hold investment but not be listed. 12 May 2022 Cessation of Benjamin Saul Shalom as a person with significant control on 12 May 2022
I did hear a rumour that Sky took the dazn approach and invested in boxxer as they were concerned allowing another promoter to build and then walk away again. But not sure how true it is. I know Hearn has referred to the mystery money man a few times over the last few weeks. Fronting decent 6 figure signing on fees for the Olympians and Okolie etc from start up with no profitability shows there is an investor somewhere. Sky pay them per show. They just about broke even on the likes of khan vs Brook. Then gave the Olympians and signings over £500k upfront without even fighting. So unless Ben is a rich man the cash is from investors
