Unfortunately a combination of nationalism and anglophobia drive the opinions of a sizeble number of americans who post here so that will never happen.
When you look at Hopkins resume often made up of fighters coming up, it seems to me Hopkins fought alot of recognised names to America, but didnt fight as tough a competition as Calzaghe. Calzaghes resume is better, just like Erdeis is better than Dawsons but not as recognised
This is the post of a true maniac. Christ knows what you are on. Especially - why make that comment about the Germans losing the war to me?! :nut I'm not German. Why do you think I am? And even if I was, what sort of thing is that to say?!!!! :huh
i made this comparison a while ago of the 3 modern greats. ottke, calzaghe and hopkins. rankings by ring magazine. calzaghe 8 out of 21 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents ottke 9 out of 21 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents hopkins 16 out of 20 title defenses against top 10 ranked opponents calzaghe 9 out of 22 title fights(at super-middle) against top 10 ranked opponents ottke 10 out of 22 title fights(at super-middle) against top 10 ranked opponents hopkins 20 out of 24 title fights(at middle-weight) against top 10 ranked opponents calzaghe 12 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions) ottke 12 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions) hopkins 26 total fights against guys ranked in the top 10(all divisions) calzaghe 2 controversial wins that could be losses ottke at least 5(haven't seen all of his fights) controversial wins that could be losses hopkins 0 wins that could be losses but 4 controversial losses that could be wins or draws
Ring magazine is American. Hopkins is American. Ring magazine ranks Americans highly to help sell their rag. Ring magazine fabricated records of boxers, to elevate them. Ring magazine promoted Americans up the rankings to try and stop non Americans from holding all the world titles and getting title shots.
sorry friend but you're seeing what you want to see and nothing more. i've covered this countless times and i really don't want to have too again.
I think The Ring's current position on who the p4p#1 is and who the p4p#2 is kind of shoots your theory down, no?
I agree. Upto championship level when Hopkins lost to Roy Jones and Calzaghe beat Eubank, they had fought virtually the same amount of fights with Calzaghe's combined opponents having a better win/loss record than Hopkins, also Calzaghe stopped virtually everyone of them, Hopkins didnt, infact Hopkins even lost to a bum on his debut, amongst Calzaghe's early victims was the highly regarded Mark Delaney.
you know, i'm in hopkins' corner with this 'argument' and i always have been. but this is exactly not the way to justify anything. in a sport ruled by bull**** you can't have it both ways and criticise the way the sport is run and then justify any fighter's career using the people who **** it up in the first place. that's all you've done here.
