Wipe your ass with him Victorhugo my good man, hes just another thick noob:deal

Very sporting of you btw to congratulate Appleby on his win, that young laddie looks like he could become Scotlands greatest ever boxer IMO. The raw talent is certainly there. People shouldnt underestimate just how big this win was, as John Simpson is one helluva fighter who I think can challenge for a world title later in his career.

Simpson should step up to super-feather as he admittedly says himself he struggles to make feather nowadays. Then he should forget about stupid domestic & european baubles, & work at taking fights that will get himself into the WBO top 15, & then target a fight with Arthur if hes still the champ by then. Thats the way to go for John Simpson IMHO.

As for Appleby, hes got me even more excited than when Scotty Harrison & Alex Arthur appeared at the same time, this kid has superstar written all over him.

While I don't doubt that Simpson is good enough to be European champion st Feather to say he could be good enough for World level is very presumptious .

Now to step up to Super-Featherweight and ignore domestic and Europeans baubles really would be something , Kevin Mitchell is a strong British champion and Gulyakevich is a quality operator and tbh I'd fancy Simpson against neither . If Simpson wants to keep the European aspirations that he has and if he intends someday to try above that he's going to have to find a way to keep making Featherweight because Super Feather will be too much for him .

While on the matter of Appleby on the other hand I tend to agree , despite what many are saying here I really do fancy him to go very far and that this was a big win , which shows he may someday be capable of something very special .

Whether he'll be able to emulate the likes of Buchanen or Watt it remains to be seen but if he doesn't at least pick up a European title I will be very , very surprised .

    How you doin bigears.

Listen, when I said Simpson should step up & avoid more domestic tussles, I wasnt saying he was 'world class' I was just saying hes been there & done that, so why hang around? Step up, take fights to get a WBO top 15 ranking(which isnt so hard) & then call out the champ, who happens to be a scotsman who loves fighting west coast fighters?

John Simpson is a good fighter, & hes going to be avoided at domestic level from now on cos hes as tough as old nails & can box & punch. So why hang around? Step up to a weight hes more comfortable at, bypass domestic & european titles & try to get a world ranking, & a world title shot.

Avoiding the 'traditional' route worked for Lockett & Hatton, so why not?

I say this as a man who thinks taking the 'traditional route' i.e. brit, commonwealth, european & then a world title shot is an outdated & obsolete creer path in modern day boxing.

Just go straight for a world title, theres plenty of them out there. british & european titles are just a hindrance in my mind to the best from these shores.

Kev Mitchell would beat Simpson In a trade off.

Would Appleby have done well without the amount of holding he did though? He winced alot when hit and had to hold everytime Instead of defending.

Great achievement for Appleby to win the British Title at such an early stage of his career and against a fighter I rate highly.

Of course there is room for improvement but he is young and still learning so hopefully any flaws can be ironed out.

Just hope his early success doesn't affect his attitude and he keeps his feet on the ground.

    I'm doing well Dunky ,

I know what your saying and in one sense it would be very easy to just bypass British and European and look for a fight with Arthur . However Simpson isn't with Warren, so unless Warren wanted Simpson to fight Arthur then Simpson would have to actually beat some very good fighters(which would probably get him ranked by other sanctioning organisations in the process) .

I'd definitely fancy Arthur to beat Simpson , unless making weight is starting to have an even greater effect on Arthur . So while it would be easy for Simpson to do a Lockett , he doesn't seem the type of guy who would take pride in getting the easy way to a title shot only to pick up a payday .

What would you take more pride in , losing a WBO shot or winning the European ? , plus the fact you can make very good money and move onto a World title shot anyway by winning the European .

I just feel that if Simpson did go the WBO route Arthur would beat him and then it would be............'what the **** do I do now' . It could destroy a fighters love for the game and I'd hate to see a young guy with plenty of ability like Simpson retire . Cause with a thing like that you never know , I kind of expect Lockett not to come back .

I always told people here Max that Simpson hit real hard to the body. Its his honeypunch, & he hit Appleby to the body all night long. Look what Simpson did to Andy Morris when he attcked his body, he brutally KO'd him. & Morris is a fine fighter, who was touted as as a future world champion, & laughably here many moons ago people said Morris would have beaten Scotty Harrison.

However, thats neither here nor there. The facts are that a relative novice in comparison beat John Simpson. He took Simmys best shots, came back with just that little bit more to edge it. Thats future greatness to me.
& I say that with a heavy heart, as Im a big Simpson fan. Someone had to lose though.

As for Kevin Mitchell, hes struggling nowadays. Too many bumfights for too long. I wouldnt be anymore confident about him than I was about Nicky Cook. When a fighter is brought up fighting nobodys for years, its a recipe for disaster.

I mean, a 33 year old Estrada couldnt miss Mitchell, & had Mitchells face in a state before he crumpled. We all remember that Harrison did to a younger fresher version of the same fighter... To say Mitchell would beat anyone of note at super-feather with any confidence is grasping at straws IMO.

Even John Rawling admitted when Mitchell was struggling with Estrada-

"This fight just makes you realise how good Scott Harrison was"

Belated respect now being given to Scotty? Did he really say that?

If so I reckon it was more of a manner of defending how pish Mitchell is - Scotty got very little respect outwith Scotland......kinda like every other sporting Scot!

it s good to hear people s opinion but i thought paul done great. He is 20 years old. He won round five 10-8 WITH A KNOCK DOWN.(surely the ref and all the boxing pundits can't be wrong). He won the title against another great Scottish fighter that you are all saying should concentrate on bigger fights. And that was his first 12 round fight. So my hat goes off to both fighters, one for john for giving paul the chance and two for paul taking the chance.

I just dont think John performed on the night as he has in the past. i dont know why but john performs much better fighting away from home. thats 3 fights now hes had a massive following the 1st morris fight at braehead, the fighting against al hamadi though wasnt a title fight took alot of fans with him and then again against appleby. i also thought appleby didnt fight to his full potential so would to see a rematch but according to john hes been told gilmour wont allow it.

I've watched the fight again and having watched it properly stand by the fact that Appleby is massively over-rated.... Simpson had an atrocious night and having been massively impressed with johns performance Vs Morris he just didn't perform and was worried about engaging Appleby in a trade off.

Appleby can hit and has some potential at domestic and commonwealth level but there was a distinct lack of consistancy in his performance. He looked one dimensional and easy to hit.

I ind it pretty depressing that a division that only ten years ago boasted Paul Ingle, Steve Robinson, Scott Harrison, Naseem Hamed at the top having only recently seen the departure of Colin Mcmillan, Duke Mckenzie and Billy Hardy- is now 'ruled' by a non-puncher and a hype job.

To make any comparison between Appleby and Arthur is ridiculous- I like Simpson but Arthur would have stopped him IMO.

Anyway thats my take on it... look forward to been proved wrong.
