Smith did well and seemed like a nice guy in the post fight interview. Anyone that raises the profile of autism gets my support too. Well done to you sir.
First of all I'll say congrats to Smith, he turned up in Simpson's back yard, he never stopped working and got the decision. How he got that decision though I'm not sure. 116-112?? that's a sick joke and it's a score like that which makes me lose faith in the sport. Some may argue it's for the greater good because Smith has the bigger future in the sport but I'm sure Simpson doesn't see it that way. I have the feeling that unless Simpson put Smith on the ground there was no chance he was going to get a decision against one of Frank's boys. .. and this isn't a dig at Smith, he gave his all in there and made it a very close fight. I hope he learns from it and goes on to become a world class operator because he seems like a good lad ... it might be for the best anyway, as much as I'd loved to see Simpson vs Lindsay (which would be a classic), did John really have a chance??
Thanks very much for all the posts, congratulations and criticism. I said in another post earlier, I thank John Simpson for the opportunity, he didnt have to fight me, this fight wasnt board ordered, he took the challenge when he could easily have moved on to European class but didnt. I will gladly have the rematch with him, he deserves that. I set out to box broke my left hand in the fight in the 4th or 5th, so neglected my jab and chose to lead with rights a lot more and lunged in, smothered up close trying to get back to long. Not the best performance and was very messy but still....10 fights in im a work in progress. People have not seen the best of me yet. I have learned so much from that fight, would not have got so much from another 10 journeymen so I believe it was worth me stepping up. I went to Glasgow in a hostile environment and took the title. Yes the fight was close, the commentary does sway some rounds but I believe I won the fight, some people may not, that's boxing and thats opinions. I am one that will have the rematch though so all that can be settled and im sure the rematch should be a better fight and will show how much ive learned from this one. Thanks again for all the posts, sorry I cant reply individually to all. P.S...The Autism is on all our shorts to raise Autistic Awareness. We have a younger sister Hollie who is Autistic. She will be 10 this year and still cant speak due to it. She is amazing. We do a lot of charity for Autism and are next doing a sky dive for it so will post something up to keep everyone informed :good
You did well mate, you deserve massive respect for taking the fight so early, moreso for your performance. I didn't score the fight for you, but as I stated earlier I'd fancy you strtongly in a rematch. I think John deserves a rematch so hopefully it comes off. Good luck with your career moving forward and also your charity work. It's gonna be great watching you develop :good
Class Response Stephen, I hope Hollie can eventually get talking, Nice that she's got a great band of brothers and close nit family. I be honest i felt Simpson won but i will hold my hands up, I thought you were gonna get embroiled in a war and worn down. You didn't because you thought a smart fight and the rounds were close. You used your head in the lions den. I could tell Simpson respected your power. I cannot complain about you winning, Scorecards yeah 116-112 i think's a pisstake but end of the day you got the 'W'. I hope Simmo comes again because i fear he pack the sport in. What i also like is that you know what you could of done better. Doesn't help if you brake your hand either. You and Paul like to make things hard don't ya if he ain't pouring blood your breaking your hand. Keep up the good work and your a breath of fresh air mate, Stepping up like you did so early. Your one of the new school and i like that. No hanging about. You've won a new fan in me by way you conduct yourself, Classy :good
Glad to see you have the balls and come on here and give your opinion, kudos for that. .. and don't be fooled by the boos at the end of the fight. You won over plenty of Scottish fans by showing dignity afterwards but no one likes seeing one of their own beaten. All the best for the future whether it's a rematch with John or you go on to face Lindsey.
Congratulations on the win, did well in there. Simpson is a dirty/awkward fighter and Smith did well not to be ground down. Fair enough the result was questionable, but very few Pro fighter's have "questionable" win's in their careers. Plus i had a few £££ on Smith to win:good
what I meant is he could easily just ignore all this **** and not bother giving his side of events.. I'm glad he decided to take the time, for that reason he's won me over as a fan. :deal
