Yeah, a similar view to me this. Absolutely no sympathy for Hearn, and I did chuckle a bit when I heard this. And we all knew Benn was a little rat, but not telling Hearn and refusing to speak to him is an absolute pr1ck move.
Hearn needs to forget about ‘global stars’ for a while and just get a solid list of 6/7 UK headliners and try and get a foothold in the UK again. The likes of Dalton Smith, Callum Smith, Crocker, Whittaker, Catterall in their hometowns and then Liddard, Conah Walker etc doing smaller venues. It’s not great but it’s a start.
Let’s face it, all promoters are dodgy as **** and all there for themselves and the pound note but Benn is a sewer rat.
Given they are on the same platform, I'd like to see more QP vs MR fights. I know they have been at war with each other in the past, but with Zuffa on the scene they both could do with having some kind of an ally, bring Boxxer in as well and try and carve out a territory here in the UK and make some good shows.
Be hard going from eating caviar back to eating beans on toast though wont it. That is the reason we dont hear anything about the 3 world champions Eddie does have in Crocker, Dalton Smith and Josh Kelly. We only hear about these on fight week. If he spent more time caring about the guys who matter rather than those who dont he may get to a point of eating caviar from those guys. But Eddie being Eddie only cares really about his own million quid paydays from the likes of Joshua who may never fight again and a 2 time drug cheat in Benn, the latter has stung him though and its his own fault thinking loyalty in boxing is a thing and not signing fighters to deals for them then to cross the street. I thought Eddie was more clued up than that obviously not...... Or its all a con to get people talking and he has sent Benn to Zuffa as a double agent to pick up millions on a 1 fight deal to stink the place out cause Dana White problems (i.e pulling out injured on fight week) or something like that to then come back to Eddie and say we have made up ect ect, I dont know but there will be signs if Benn continues training with Tony Sims at the 'matchroom' gym then its a load of bollocks and Eddie is just happy to take his slice from Benn to fight on someone else's show so he doesn't have to pay him himself I personally dont believe anything these scumbags say anymore anyway It seems all they all do is talk about boxing and not actually do any boxing.
They should merge under a new investor and get the old men out of the way. Zuffa won't put many shows on so there's plenty space. Interesting hearing Hearn talk about DAZN disappointing with its numbers early on, and so he didn't have the "billion pound deal" like people thought - clearly it was tied to results.
If what Eddie is saying is correct about the lack of contract being overlooked because he saw Benn as a friend then that’s a real blunder on his behalf, a man of his experience in this game really should have known better, say what you will about Hearn but he’s usually sharp as a tack, this is a serious bollock drop from him! Do we think Hearn felt he was some kind of father figure? And maybe overlooked the finer details that he wouldn’t have with other fighters?
And Eubank Sr and many others. He always said that if the boxer's family get involved then the game was up, I wonder if Nigel (who wasn't particularly loyal to any promoter in his day either) guided Conor to do this?
I’ve got people from my past and relatives who make Benn look like a golden retriever. One day he’ll realise he had more when he had nothing – respect and goodwill you can’t buy back, and he can’t erase his digital footprint either. The fact he moves the way he does just shows a total lack of self-awareness; the bloke’s built entirely on external validation and an outside-in value system.
Benn is a textbook narcissist, and a part of their pathology is to discard people they no longer require, like a piece of trash.
