Mike Tyson made a career of it.

Vitali looked slow, confused at times, and his pnches had no snap.

that doesn't change no matter who you are fighting.

My quick list of former champions who would have Ko'd Kevin Johnson the way he fought tonight, within 5 rounds.

    Lennox lewis
    Evander Holyfield
    Riddick Bowe
    Mike Tyson (within 90 seconds)
    Larry Holmes
    Joe Frazier
    Ingemar Johanson
    Ezaard Charles
    Joe Walcott
    Rocky Marciano
    Joe Louis (within 90 seconds)
    Jack Dempsey
    Jim Jeffries.

Just off the top of my head.

As did Roy Jones, Joe Louis, George Foreman, etc Vitali just isn't very good against someone who doesn't showup overweight and out of shape, it's not like Johnson was running or anything , he was in front of Vitali all night.

Get the hell out of here. KJ showed that a DECENTLY athletic dude of SIMILAR PROPORTIONS could easily kick Vitali's ass. Vitali was getting caught by the jab. He looked stiff and slow. This further showed the crap that is at HW.

Now don't get me wrong, Kevin looked like crap too. He came there to be a game looser. No attempt to win, but do everything he could not to get torn apart. He did NOT deserve a title shot and I would not be upset if he was dropped so low in the rankings that he NEVER got a title shot again. Especially after all that smack talk.

Exactly. If he was running about or even holding a bunch, I would understand it. But he just stoo in front of Vitali for 36 minutes, not throwing anything to worry about, and Vitali couldn't even lay a glove with bad intentions on him.

I acknowledge, that even with this performance, Vitali is probably the best heavy going today. that is a terrible indictment on the state of heavyweight boxing.

Okay, so if you believe KJ did not deserve a title shot (and I agree with you on that point), why did VK choose to fight KJ? And what does that say about VK?

He didn't look good mate. If you can't get a dead man out of there during the 12 round distance...it's not a good night for you.

You can say the same thing about Hopkins reign at middleweight, or about Chad Dawson, or anyone really. Most of the top fighters in thier divisions are in weak divisions with few exceptions today

Yeah, I don't know where people get off saying he looked old, no good etc. To me, he looked pretty much the same as always, and he looked to have more than enough left to take advantage of Haye's shaky whiskers.

****, Haye has trouble taking the shots of supermiddles and old cruisers. Vitali would annihilate him.:yep

Actually, I think Johnson threw more punches than Haye did vs. Valouev. Wonder why Haye ran from Vitali and Vlad?

It was a very ugly looking fight but Vitali couldn't possibly have lost a round honestly. Johnson is a very skilled fighter and I believe he would've stood a chance had he had half the fighting spirit of an Arreola, because he's got twice Arreola's talent and underrated power. It's not the lack of power that causes him to have few knockouts-it's lack of wanting to use it. He was ridiculous offensively. The few jabs he landed on VK showed that VK's skin is old and and weathered and if Johnson had really fought, it may have been trouble. If that were David Haye in there, we'd have seen some real blood, I believe. I'm just giving my honest opinion. A 38-year-old man fired over a thousand punches. This was more exhausting than Arreola because he had bring that fight to him. He didn't look great doing it, but he looked dominant.

only you would take that much effort to justify how terrible your guy looked. He was an old stiff and he engaged in a 12 round slap bout, embarrasing fight for the sport. The great heavies of the past are rolling in their graves right now

Hopkins had to run through Rj, Joppy, Keith Holmes, Taylor adn a few other decent to great fighters. The heavyweight division right now makes the Lt heavies look like they are in a golden age.

Both of those eras are lightyears ahead of the heavies today.
