Well, I think a full on motivated Duran can get inside of Hearns long reach and do damage to the body. He displayed beautiful defense in Montreal, slipping punches better than I'd seen him before at lightweight. If he can make the quicker handed fighter in Leonard miss, He could do it against Hearns (who was no slouch in hand speed, but slower than Leonard).
Fair points. I disagree that Duran at any weight beats Hearns, but I can definitely agree that the version you're talking about goes past two rounds for sure and gives Hearns a much better fight. Basically, the blowout that Hearns laid on Duran is the "one in a hundred" in terms of possibilities when they meet. If they fought another time we can safely assume it would not have ended so soon, though I still see Hearns being all wrong for Duran.
Yeah trying to lay on the chest of a huge puncher like Hearns has its rewards and down falls. I think Hearns stamina was suspect so a fighter with a good body attack could be effective, that said you have to pay a price to get inside. Duran had a quick feet like Mike Tyson when it came to closing distance fast, but again that is a huge rick against a guy like Hearns, Tyson moved his head consistently on the way in, Duran, not so much, he got nailed by De Jesus and he was nailed by Leonard on the way in second fight.
The original fight was at 154, where I think Hearns hit his peak and Duran was looking sloppy (for this fight). At 147 Roberto's chances increase immensely. I'm thinking a K.O win for Duran in the 12th round.
Fair enough. Surely a controversial opinion. All the same at 147lbs I still see Duran eating some leather in trying to close the distance as gooners!! said above.
If you dont move Hearns of the centre of the ring you will get hammered imo, if you can back him up like De Witt, Barkley were able to then you a good chance.
Of course. Yeah, I'm not saying he'll look like Sweet Pea in there, but he won't be as hittable as Hatton either, ya dig?
