I said the same thing when people asked me how I rate Harry Greb as the number 1 p4p fighter ever (although I think I used the English civil war as an example)

You havent.......using war as a pretext for some metaphorical rambling about boxing is a fallacy....stick to boxing.

Why dont you rate Sullivan, what do you think of Corbett is he better than Rocky...

Hey, apparently this thread is about Heavyweights now, not Heavyweight contenders that a natural middleweight beat that later went on to challenge for Dempsey's title because Jack was too scared to fight Greb :deal

It's not 'Controversial Opinions' anymore, it's 'Black2023 has a meltdown because nobody values his posts and he can't hack it' :good

Corbett was touted in his day as a 'master scientist'. It's clear to see, even in what is pretty much an 'exhibition', that Corbett commits what we would call 'sins' in today's game.

For his time; smaller gloves, longer durations (fight to the finish) and considering the opposition he fought (and how they were perceived) he was obviously one of the better fighters around, but would I favour him to last very long against Wlad Klitschko based on the small footage I've seen of him against Fitz and (my word poor skills in the following) Courtney? No.

Doesn't mean he couldn't be feasibly rated higher than, say, Eddie Chambers, even though Chambers done far better against Wlad than I could ever imagine Corbett doing. But for his day, his rules, his skillset, he was obviously one of the better guys.

Again, I rate by era. How strong/competitive was an era? How good was 'Fighter A' in the era?=How great that fighter was.

Not 'he was 6'4 and median weight of 225lbs (pulls spaz face) so....I'm gonna' get irate.' Like you do.

Corbett Vs Rocky; more feasible, as they're around the same size (180-185 or so) but Corbett, never renowned as a hitter, would not have the power to keep The Rock's respect I imagine. And, with the footage we have at least, he doesn't appear anywhere near as refined a mover as Jersey Joe.

Marciano would muller him at some point I expect.
