It's not that people think Minimumweight is better... it's just that most of us haven't a clue about any of the minimumweight's.

They may just be prospects, but the likes of Mendez, Broner, Cruz, and Magdaleno all have the potential to be very good fighters, and all have showcased some very good skills. Luis Cruz is an excellent technician.

It's pretty poor. I just think it's neck and neck with SFW because the dudes at the top are, or at least were before one or two moved up, a bit better. Joyi's excellent, and he makes up for a not so great division.

Ricardo Williams looked like a sure-fire superstar, until they're somewhat proven I don't put a huge amount of credence in prospects being a strong basis for the strength of a division, because no matter how good they appear it could go tits-up whenever.

**** me! Forgive me, but I'm not sure where else to post this, Tomas Rojas lost his title this morning to Suriyan Por Chokchai.

    Thought Buddler was a light-fly?

Straw weight is a f'n useless division, it should be rendered obsolete. Joyi is 5'5 (or thereabouts) FFS.

Super feather is abysmal too. The fact that people argue about Fana, Burns or Uchiyama being the no.1 guy proves it.

What's height got to do with how poor a division is? Unless you're saying Joyi is far too big for straw, which you'd probably be correct in saying, as he has the build of like a 115 pounder.

I don't know though, a lot of these prospects have at least one decent win on their record. Mendez has Baloyi and Honorio, Broner has De Leon and Litzau, Cruz beat Honorio, and Magdaleno has a win over Alejando Perez. Not the best wins, but more than say Ricardo Williams ever did, and enough to get a good gauge or their abilities. I think this is a good bunch of prospects. You can throw guys like Hovanessyan and Perez into the mix too. These guys actually have a decent win or two, not like someone who really doesn't at all yet is considered a prospect, namely Mercito Gesta.

Exactly that. The one top-notch fighter there shouldn't be there.

It's a crap division and pretty much always has been. You could name all the 'best' fighters that actually stayed in that division on both hands, and most of them would be pussies who battered midgets rather than step it up to light fly....IMO ;-)

Couldn't believe it. I know Rojas isn't elite but he's still a very good, underrated, not to mention improved fighter. Chokchai's a scrapper, I couldn't for the life of me find the Pong fight but he ran him close by all accounts, though I assumed that was down to Pong taking it easy.

As you know, every so often, one of these unheralded Thais with a shitty looking record is a f'n beast ;-)

    C'mon now.

Anyways, it's still a wank division, one of the wankiest. As Flea says, look at the guys you can realistically call number one. Plenty of up and comers have one good win, as I say it doesn't really contribute all that much. The champions are average, if these guys are that good they should be able to take them right now.

And sorry SPORTS LEADER but Broners 'win' over Ponce doesn't stand for much :deal

But I like Takahiro as well :D

    :yep

I think once Mendez/Salgado (prolly Mendez) wins the IBF belt, and Broner likely dethrones Burns, people will start talkling about the division in a more positive light.

    Broner
    Uchiyama
    Ao G
    Mendez

Is a decent championship line up, and with the prospects I mentioned before, it should be considered one of the better divisions, and most certainly not the worst.

    SportsLeader, you mug

Very stylish fighter. I am a fan (but not of the typical, boring Jap style [Hasegawa, Uchiyama, though not all of course])
