As much as I like Damiani I think him giving Tyson a good match is a stretch.. But then again a poorly trained Tony Tubbs, a green Tyrell Biggs and a 38 year old Holmes all had a few good moments against Tyson too, so who knows? I saw the Damiani vs McCall fight in 1993 live on cable televeision and it wasn't pretty. Francesco looked a thoroughly diminished fighter in there.. No surprise that he hung them up afterward.. I often wonder if a 1988 Damiani would have fared better against McCall and Mercer.

Sanders gets a lot of attention due to his KO of Vlad but was less reliable than damiani. He has a early KO loss to Nate tubbs That counts against him .damiani did look much looking like he trained in a chip shop but could box well and hit with decent power I think he outpoints Sanders unless he gets caught early with a sucker punch.

    Damiani by decision

Sanders was more talented, but Damiani was better schooled and more consistent.
