I can care less about what he does because he's not fighting margarito. I just don't like guys who lose and don't inact the rematch claus. That shows that he is scared of margarito. Just like margarito didn't inact his rematch claus with paul williams. Just like trinidad did with hopkins. All the guys I named will never fight the guys who beat them and that's the problem with 4 belts running around every division.
I think he could do pretty good. If he can win rds versus a 5'11" MArgarito he could fare well @54. Verno Phillips was competitive at the weight and they're about the same height.

Bad idea. He is far smaller than Margarito, Williams and Clottey, going up to 154 would be suicide. Shane Mosley couldn't do it, same thing would happen with Miguel.
I agree, i voted bad weight for him. Just wanted to get some other opinions because i think he will move to 154 eventually. Not in the near future...At least I hope.
Not simply too short, overall too small, not durable enough, wrong style to be a weight hopper - he isn't a runner like Spinks, its not as easy.

Cotto is already small for welter, he would look like a midget @ 154. Bad weight for him. Imo he would dominate if there was a division @ 142-143.
This question should never even get asked. Whoever thinks this is a viable move must have been Duffle Bagged & duck taped during the Margarito fight. Margarito beat him down into submission Cotto at 154lbs, come on, for him to take worse punishment? Cotto is good but hes not that good fellas...
