Cotto beats PWilly and Berto IMO. Still not sold on Berto and last fight he acted like a ***** everytime Quintana touched him with a shot. Obvioulsy Williams is hard task but he is beatable and last two displays haven't been great. (that includes his 3 rounds against superman)
think williams and berto are abit over-rated. didnt see fight last night. how did cotto look at 154 and what was his performance like
Berto is literally begging to be knocked out with an uppercut, as soon as he fights a top fighter he's going As for Cotto, although Foreman wasn't the strongest of champions i still thought he looked outstanding last night. The balance issues have been corrected, the jab was a weapon again and his footwork was like watching the Cotto of 2006, allowing him to put combinations together fluently rather than having to re-set his feet after every jab or 1-2. I noticed this in comparing the pad sessions from the Pac fight with Santiago to this one with Steward, and i'm so glad he put it into practice. He looked like a different fighter compared to the Pac fight. I'd like to see him drop back to 147 personally, i think he'd take Berto apart. He's still very short at 154 and i don't think Williams is a good match sylistically for him at all.
Positives Footwork-Better then has been for a long while Jab was on point and doubled it nicely Kept calm and cut ring off beautifully against a very awkward customer. Put shots togther alot better because he was balanced after initial first shots. Left Hook was used to head and body expertly. Left Hook and Uppercut off the hook was scintillating Showed some sweet pivots at times as well as having a better defence with gloves not covering eyeline and not leaning forward allowing uppercut to glide through seam. Negatives Caught with lead right hands at times. (I think because he still getting used to hand placements when at range..seemed to let his left dip a bit to much allowing a line for Foreman to fire down) Still falls back into a few old habits defensively but Miguel is comfortable in this fight and still learning under Manny. Overall against a man people felt could give him nightmares he outboxed the boxer. Beautiful Display IMO :good
Cotto is not an ATG. But a very good fighter IMO. He should go back to Welter and annihilate Berto, too many big strong lads at 154, even a B-rate pressure fighter like Angulo would have a shot at Miguel IMO. However, he's made easy work of an awkward top 5 fighter at a weight you wouldn't think he could succeed at. Fair play to Cotto, good to see a modern fighter not completely wasted after two gruelling losses.
When Berto steps up and gets beat I might break the habit of a lifetime and use the dreaded ESB cliche, "Exposed".
Berto is shocking. He'll probably fight Aydin next I'm thinking Arum will push for Cotto-Margarito II or Cotto-Chavez Jr in a big Mexican venue. I'd prefer Chavez Jr to avoid seeing Cotto getting busted up again, but Marg II is obviously the more interesting fight, especially because so much has happened to both fighters since the first. I'm still not sure that Chavez will beat Duddy, though due to both fighters natures (or lack of finesse) Jr. will land some punches and will win the decision, somehow. Cotto vs Duddy in NYC would make Arum a lot of money.
Miguel seemed happy with his display. I get feeling his uncle made him fall out of love with sport. He seems rejuvenated.
