I don't know if this is going to be so good for Cotto. Throughout history Steward has mainly found success in training tall rangy fighters like Lewis, Hearns and now Klitschko. With those long reaches he has taught them to use the jab effectively. I am not sure how this will bode with Cotto's pressure style.
Steward would help Mosley better against Floyd than he would Cotto, but he might help Cotto a little. Cotto already knows how to punch. Defense is what Cotto needs, and Emanual is more of a offensive minded trainer. But as Steward has said offense is defense.
steward isn't offensive, most of his fighters are defensive, wlad, lennox, hearns (yeah he had a great offense but he was also hard to hit).
Just giving Cotto the proper direction during the course of a fight is going to be a big help for him.
Good point, a "yes" man is their previous choice, why did they change their minds about McGirt? Whatever the hell is a "yes" man, McGirt surely knows and masters.
mcgirt isn't a yes man, he is a good trainer, he's just in situations where theres nothing he can do, i mean no one could have trained rahman to beat wlad, or gatti to beat floyd etc etc.
Ohhh ****, looks like Cotto will be a safety fist boxer from now on. No more killer instinct for Cotto, like Taylor, Klit etc...:-(
