I've said it a few times and get no responses. But here I go again... Clottey was countering Margarito to the body and head, which is why I believe he slightly stunned Marg at a moment. I think the best way for Cotto to hit the body is countering the slow but powerful punching Margarito like Clottey did. Sure he would have to tighten his defense and prepare specifically for how Margo opens up, but with 10 weeks of training camp I think it's possible. Another interesting point is the poster above who talked about the jab to Margo's stomach.

#1 - I'm sorry but I don't think this helps Cotto much in this fight because as "slow" as Margarito is supposed to be, he has the skill to actually time a counterpunch to this, and that's a chance Cotto just couldn't afford to take. :-(

#2 - Your recollection about Floyd is accurate, but the last thing haters in this thread want to hear about is him...

Margie is limited....why do you think he eats every blow?

Cotto said Margie was doing something that would not allow him to go to
    the body.

That is a Puerto Rican "Decoy"

Cotto will win the rematch....he also said, " I didn't feel any lasting effects from that fight that was unlike anyother"

First I will say Cotto is full of sh*t. He didnt go to the body because it was too easy to hit margo in the head, and Cotto was thinking that he would get him. Once he seen that he wouldnt he quit plan and simple.

Secondly I dont think that Cotto is limited, I think that he gets hit too easy. Offensively he is one of the more complete fighters around today, his problem is defense, or no defense.

once again Cotto is full of sh*t...Everytime a fighter loses for the first time there is an effect, and when they get stopped its doubled. We'll see once he steps back in the ring. If he fights Margo or Clottey like its being rumored he will be knocked out again. No way in hell he wins a rematch:bbb

Cotto tried to fight the outside fight, which made it very easy for Margarito to see the body shots comming.

Had he fought his normal fight, he would have been in closer and the shots would have been quicker, possibly landing more.

He simply tried to fight a stratagey that he is not equipt for. It was a seemingly good idea, but just not suited for him.

Margarito did a great job covering his body and Cotto looked for bodyshots but they weren't open.

Good. That will make the rematch even easier for Margarito.

Maybe you have'nt seened enough of Margarito I might be wrong but in order for a fighter in Cotto case to land effectively to the body he has to have his feet set with Margo charging forward he was'nt able to do that and as someone else pointed out in a few posts above if Cotto would have tried to go to the body he would have run the risk of getting countered to the head and face so he had to take what was there which was to punch Margarito in his skull though it did not work obviously.

To add one more thing Margarito protects his body very well he always has his elbows tucked in protecting his ribs and all so that also made it impossible for Cotto to go to the body.

His defense is rated poor, Margarito already mentioned that once he tried Cotto's power in the first round he knew he could take it and Cotto can't hurt him, so he kept his self open there but protected his body since body shots aren't easy to handle at all. Margarito doesn't have much of defense and relies on breaking his opponent down using his aggressive style which lacks defense, it's a part of his style.

Cotto doesn't have the foot speed or skill to keep the fight in the middle of the ring.

Or at-least in his past fights he has never shown that skill set.

Cotto also didn't help his cause by agreeing to wear puncher Gloves against a fighter bigger and physically stronger then him self.
