It's kind of hard to know exactly where these guys are right now IMO. I personally never really rated Yuri Foreman very high, not mentioning the knee blowing out and ****, and Mayorga hadn't fought in forever (although I found that fight entertaining as hell).

Margo's eye "looks" bad to me. I'm no doctor, but still....:p

I have been a long time fan of Cotto's. I would be happy to see his right hand "come to life" in there.

I worry about Cotto's mind set aswell.

i remember being very disappointed with Foreman who at times would land the right and seemed to bother Cotto yet he would throw very reluctantly

did not catch the Mayorga fight and cant find it on youtube

Isn't Cotto a natural lefty who fights orthodox?

Going into the first fight I thought is was a 50/50 fight. A few other posters insisted that was true. Of course we had some hardcore Margo fans, but the most vocal group by far were the haters (yes, Tony had many haters even back then) who insisted Cotto would box Margarito's ears off.

Then fight night finally came. For the first few rounds I was really surprised that it did not look 50/50 AT ALL! Miguel just kept boxing, and piling up the rounds. Starting in round 6 the tide turned. Tony beat seven shades of **** out of Cotto, and made it look easy. In all my years as a boxing fan I have seen very few fights that took place in two-parts to that extreme.

Here are the things Cotto would have to change to win this rematch.

1, better footwork, Way better. He has to stay off the ropes.

2, vastly improved punching power. Last time out he couldn't buy a blink.

3, better hand speed. Tony got hit a lot, but he also made Cotto miss a lot, and road punches pretty well.

4, better stamina than he has ever shown in any fight.

5, better head movement. He can't take those full on flush shots.

6, quicker, more fluid, upper body movement. See point 5.

Mayorga fight turned out to be a dandy.

I was thinkin' about how you'd said Cotto's body work had been much less existant since Alfonso. I need to watch a couple fights, maybe I hadn't noticed as much (except vs. Margo where it was obvious as hell). I seem to recall atleast against Micheal Jennings (I know, I know :p) anyways he did good body work there. Against Mayorga, he fought sort of similiar to how he did against Mosely IMO. Little bit of seak and destroy, little bit of back peddle.

Good post. I like how you put foot work at #1. It's all got to start right there. And yes, FFS!! stay of the friggin' ropes Miguel!!

What are you basing that assessment on?

Cotto will have to work the right eye. Or that might be an advantage he has. Him being a converted southpaw he must cover a lot of power on his jabs and left hook. So that might work out for him.

But the fight is at 154 now which I think favors Margarito so that makes things even.

Alotta things. But basically cause he is the better fighter. He will come prepared and implement his gameplan. He needs to make adjustments from teh first fights but he has had 3 years to think about it. I am sure he will be ready. Cant wait.

Cotto needs to bank early rounds and hit the body. Margo has slowed down since the first fight and Cotto needs to take away Margo's ability to pour it on late.

I can't wait for this fight.

This fight is going to be brutal and bloody. I'll be rooting for Cotto. Revenge is one hell of a motivator.
