Bayless spoke about the fight and believes the stoppage was right.

The standard of articles on ESB is quite poor in general unfortunately. I like the interview archive, some good reads on there if you haven't already checked it out.

It was the correct decision. However, I am also of the belief that Cotto was tiring badly. he was consistently back-pedalling into the corners/ropes and trying to clinch in the 9th. If the fight had continued I would not bet on Cotto making the final bell. I was somewhat relieved at the stoppage.

  10. I'm not so sure. I was thinking this up until Marg's eye closed. The fight was going in an almost identical way to the first fight. I was genuinely fearing for Cotto's health. But as Marg's eye closed and Cotto simply moved to his left it took Marg almost completely out of the fight. At that point I felt Cotto had his number and would see the fight all the way through.

    You never know though.

Watch the last round again. Miguel had plenty in the tank it was arguably his best round of the fight. Walking Marg back to the ropes and the triple left hook he hit him with was great

Just re-watched it. It was nowhere near Cotto's best round although he probably won it. I think he had more in the tank than I thought he did. Based on this new perspective I would say Cotto would manage to last the distance.

Margarito's eye being closed means nothing except to the doctors. He can't defend for **** anyway so he was always going to get hit, and he clearly had no problem with Cotto's power. Don't get me wrong, it was a good decision to stop the fight, but I'm still not convinced Cotto would have lasted.

Basically, for me, Cotto landed enough punches to force the doctors to stop the fight. Legit conclusion.

  14. His eye being closed made a big difference. When Cotto moved left Marg couldn't see him properly. You can't hit what you can't see.

It was like when Pavlik got cut against Martinez. The blood going into his right eye meant that he couldn't see out of it. Martinez just circled left and peppered the damged eye for the last 4 rounds. Pavlik was hitting thin air.

Never once saw Cotto in trouble saturday night. Much the same as Mosley Pacquaio and journeyman Garcia were never. Mr arm punches simply has no power
