I was just over at the ESPN website looking at the upcoming fights and i see the Cotto vs Clottey fight is on HBO not HBO PPV. Then the week after the Klitchko vs Haye is regualr HBO and not HBO PPV. If this is true HBO is def coming thru big time. :good It's about time they stop putting all these fight on PPV. We in a f*cking recession dammit !! They finally giving back to the fans (atleast for now) after all the money we (atleast i do) spend on PPV fights. Good Sh*t HBO! :happy
If its true, then that is absolutely good news. But I think HBO is doing it because of the economy, they can attract more subscribers with these fights.
June 13th also falls on one of HBO's free preview weekends, and they will air The Dark Knight prior to Cotto-Clottey. Should result in a lot of viewers. HBO is only airing one fight that night, though.
NO, they're doing it because they don't think a Cotto - Clottey fight would generate much PPV dollars. Trust me, if they thought they could make any kind of PPV profit off this fight they wouldn't let a little thing like the ecomomy keep them from jacking people of their hard earned cash.
HBO doesn't really decide whether or not a fight is put on PPV. That's the promoter's decision. HBO normally makes more money if it's not on PPV.

Yes indeed. Because that's definetly gonna happen. Hopefully after this Mayweather mans up and gives Cotto a fight but a hunch telling me that it might scare him away after Cotto gets threw with Clottey.
OK, I'm glad HBO is carrying these two great fights... but let's be honest here. They don't have any other choice. Neither of these fights are PPV-material. Haye/Klitschko would be get a huge number of PPV buys in Europe, but I doubt the numbers would be very high in the US. Cotto vs Clottey would not be a big seller either, so thankfully HBO did the reasonable thing.
Hopefully, it's a trend. PPV numbers have plummeted over the last few years. People are tired of forking over $49.95 for two pathetic undercard fights and a lame mismatch headliner. Maybe the promoters have finally woke up.
True, and that was before the economy went in the crapper. would be nice if these fights went on reg tv/cable all together like in the 80's. But I know we aren't going back there.
