I never said he was a defensive fighter. I was being sarcastic with the face first. You need defence and your chin won't work each and every time. Especially if he fights someone like Cotto. I still think his arms were tired. He placed them on the ropes after I believe each round. That is a no, no. Southpaw style with that workrate and power will give many fighters fits, but let's see how he does against just say Santos also a southpaw and a good boxer. It is too early to tell with Kirkland even if he beats the green Angulo.
C'mon, Kirkland would knock him out in like 3 or 4 rounds, that's not even fair. That's like a middleweight coming at Cotto like a pitbull, if Margarito, as slow as he is, could walk through him Kirkland would hurt him badly, Cotto is a slightly small welterweight, Cotto has by far the better skills but Julio hits alot harder than Cotto and Kirkland walked right through it.
danlop15-you are f?#king retarted if you think Julio hits harder then Cotto. Julio has 26 knock outs against guys in Columbia. Only has two in the US and that is in 7 fights so that goes to show you that you can't go off of someones record. Honestly I've seen Julio fight five times and he looks like ****. Quintana beat him up for 11 of the 12 rounds on all judges score card and we all know what happened to Quinatana we he fought Cotto. To this day Quintana says he never fought anyone with the power Cotto presented him with. With all due respect to Kirkland very unproven and Cotto seems to fight whoever they put in front of him. He has beaten everyone he fought very easily other then Mosely and Margo. Kirkland goes into most fights the day of the fight around 158 Cotto usually comes in around 160 so believe me weight won't be much of a factor. Cotto by TKO/11rd or UD
Your good. Julio has more power than Cotto you say? Quintana beat Julio and Julio got a split decision with Cosme? Who has Julio knockout that makes you think he has more power than Cotto? I am just throwing out facts and my opinion, but if you want to throw out smart answers, go right ahead. Even though this is a fantasy match-up, it could well happen in the future, but by then Kirkland will have already lost to a good boxer who will out point him. Kirkland is no Marg. He is careless and telegraphs some of his punches. Again, Kirkland is green right now and would lose perioid.
Kirkland would KO Cotto, Cotto would would be on the run all night long and just like the Margo fight would NOT get any leverage or power behind his shots.
I was just pointing out that defence is not his strenght. Kirkland does have some defence, but like I said, I think he sometimes doesn't use it because he feels too comfortable and wants to engage in exchanges. I don't think Cotto would gain Kirklands respect with his punching power because he's just too big and too strong for him. Add to that how Kirkland cuts off the ring, his punching power, etc, and I just think it's too much for Cotto to handle, which is fine because Kirkland is much bigger than Cotto and on a higher weight class. I really don't think you'll convince me so I guess we'll just agree to disagree :good
That's the point of this thread, it's supposed to be disputable, I know Kirkland will eat Cotto alive because I don't find Cotto as a big welterweight and I see Kirkland as a big jr middleweight. You can't change my mind that julio is not a heavier stronger puncher than Cotto but Cotto knows how to implement his power better. Quintana's soft. Gomez and Margarito have said Cotto hits hard but not that hard. You could think I'm bugging and thats okay because I know boxing very well and in in-depth detail and I know Cotto wouldn't last in the same ring with Kirkland for five rounds. These kind of threads will always be disputable and that's what makes these kinds of things interesting.
why is cotto ahead in voting? you cant be serious... kirkland is to big, to strong & to much for cotto
:good. I just have to see more of Kirkland. Even if he feels comfortable, one punch can change a fight. It was obvious Julio had nothing for him. I know I am sounding like a saleman so I will agree to disagree also. Especially if your not buying..:yep
That's definitely what makes it fun, but sometimes it gets hard to keep up for me due to the multitasking I often find myself doing.
A better question should be, who would win if they were naturally the same size. Cotto definetly has more boxing skills and talent than Kirkland, that should even be disputable.
you don't really sound like a salesman, but I don't have a problem with disagreeing, after all, I do wish I was wrong
I personally think Cotto would win a still very though fight if they were the same size with Kirkland being as inexpirienced as he is now.
Definitely, you nailed it, that would be more disputable. If Kirkland was smaller and had a little less power, then Cotto might win with his intelligence and being a little more durable towards Kirland's punches, because Kirkland will catch his, even if its on the arms it win still hurt. I still find Kirkland too dangerous for Cotto. Even tough Kirkland is crazy and doesn't put much intelligence or patience in what he's doing, I think that would work to his advantage. I'll give you an example, Ishe Smith is a very good defender and a smart fighter, probably thee most patient fighter in the game today, but he is too patient, too concentrated on defense, and just doesn't want to take the chance to be countered or make a mistake, that's why Julio won, James Kirkland just throws and eventually he will land. Just like Mosley when he fought Cotto and Margarito when he fought Cotto. Mosley is clearly the better boxer than Margarito, but Mosley was thinking to much on Cotto and couldn't figure him out. Margarito just throw and throw and used his durability and stamina (which Kirkland has has) and beat Cotto that way. In that sense I see Kirkland beating Cotto, not because he is the better boxer, but because he pressures like crazy and is super strong, and Cotto won't be able to counter affectively or get in his rhythm. Sorry for the long post.
