That is true b/c I'm sure there arent nearly as many ricans in vegas as NY. What i'm hoping though is that all the ricans that would normally go to the fight in MSG will simply just buy the PPV. I cant imagine why they wouldnt. If I lived in NY, i would definitely go see his fights live, but damn sure wouldnt fly to vegas. I'm not ballin like that and most of the ricans in NY damn sure arent either. You talking about like $500 for the flight, another 2-300 for the hotel stay and another 100 or more for the tickets. We havent even mentioned the partying. It's just too much for fans to fly out.
Economy Is Definitely A Factor.... Poor Economy + Even Poorer Promo = Bad Mix... Too Bad Since This Would Have Been A Good Time For The Sport To Pick Up A Few Fans With This Kind Of Top Level Matchup.
Judah-Spinks broke the indoor attendance record for Boxing with 22,000+. Cotto-Judah did 20,000+. And yeah, Mayweather-Spinks did do 15,000+. Yet, Mayweather-Baldomir in Floyd's backyard did a little over 9,000. Coincidence? No. No matter how you shake it, Floyd needs a strong b-side to do well. Prior to facing De La Hoya or Hatton, Floyd never cracked 400k PPV buys. He's not the draw he, or his fans, seems to believe he is. Ricky Hatton is the biggest draw in Boxing, regardless of where the bulk of his fans originate. Hatton's drawing power had a lot to do with the fight being such a huge event. Yes, I'm aware of the the limited number of tickets made available to the UK. But I'm also aware of the fact that many had tickets purchased in the US. And that it was Floyd being booed during the ring introductions, not Ricky. Hatton had little in terms of U.S. fanbase, yet there were still 4,000 more in attendance for his fight with Castillo than there were for Mayweather-Baldomir in Floyd's adopted hometown. Like I said, Hatton and De La Hoya already do big numbers from the jump. What do you expect them to do when you have a month long reality series designed to promote the fight? Am I saying Floyd had nothing to do what so ever with the success of these events? No, not at all. At the time he was the #1 P4P fighter in the sport, that counts for something. But for him to walk around and say **** like he sold 3 million PPVs alone in 2007, and use that as a reason to dismiss a fight with Cotto and Margarito is ****ing joke.
Their exciting styles make up for it though. Its the promoters job to spin an illusion of personality or to create a mystique around the fighter. It definitely helps if the fighter is outspoken and interesting outside of the ring, but not necessary.....see Arturo Gatti.
It's just the promotion of the fight, doubt it's either fighter's fault this isn't selling. They did a really poor job promoting this. Cotto vs Gomez seemed to have more attention surrounding it than this, don't really know what these guys are thinking.
There is still plenty of time left, besides I think alot of people who where looking forward to this fight, are not mainstreem fans these are the legit fight fans, so the way I see it they were waiting to see what the undercard would look like first. either way the tickets will pick up as the fight gets closer
You might hear him talk ****, but it wont matter cus he wont come out of retirement to fight either guy so **** him. nobody cares about Floyds opinion he couldnt draw ants to a pik nik the only time he has made any money is when he fought Gatti, and De La hoya those are the only two times he did big numbers, Baldimor and Judah fights didnt even come close and I know as the fight draws near this wont even be an issue any more.
i dont think floyd wants to fight any more and in his mind he feels he doesnt have anything more to prove... the reason he came out twice was the money was so crazy that HE COULDNT TURN IT DOWN.... so the only way hes coming out is if the money is crazy so if this fights #'s are bad.. expect floyd to come out and say something like you expect me to fight these guys when they cant even sell out a show
that may or may not be true but compared to other big fights that were sold out already buy this time. You still need those casual fan to fill the void of ticket sales to make the fight a success , with 9 days left we have to see how this fight will turn out by the end of the week.
