I see Roach wanting this to GO THE DISTANCE or at least to a late spurt of power. That is one advantage Manny has against Cotto, stamina in the later rounds. But Cotto knows this and will want to use his power early on. Cotto starts slow though, and both fighters will avoid being careless in the opening rounds. Rd. 1-3 is dangerous for a slow starter, Manny will perform well on those rounds but won't be able to really hurt him. Probably by round 3, Cotto picks up the pace and starts hitting Manny with intensity. COtto gases out in rd. 8 but Manny's still relatively fresh. Manny does his in-and-out thing winning the later rounds. Rd. 12, both will try to get a KD or at least a head-snap to impress the judges.

On the other hand, there is a very slim chance of a KO IMO, but if Cotto plays this smart, he'll have to attack early on and drop his caution just a knotch. Cotto has to win rds 1-3 to win this fight.

That being said, I'd call it for PAC by decision/late stoppage. We can narrow it down when training starts.

If Cotto starts hitting Pac with intensity it won't go 8 rounds.

    145 seems a good catchweight

my thiking is that manny naturally scales 140+ these days

Roach is comfy with the weight cause he knows manny is

yup, that's what Cotto needs to do. He has to use all he's got in the beginning rounds and knock Pac out. If he can't knock him out but wins those rounds then he can revert to boxing his way to the later rounds. What concerns me is that he'll do what he always does and start slow.

Pac by TKO. I don't think Cotto's cut will fully heal. MP will target that sore spot.

145 lbs means that I have absolutely no clue who I'd favor at this point. If the catchweight was at 43 then I'd side with Pac, if at 47 then I'd say Cotto. Training, sparring, and any rumors leading up to the fight will probably heavily factor into my final prediction but as of today I've got no idea.

145 is indeed a compelling catchweight. It should make for a suspenseful build up.
