If they were to fight again, which i do see as a possibility in the future i would pick cotto to win. His confidence has returned, he would apply a more counter punching style in the fight, the only danger to cotto is if he gets into a brawl & gets caught with a big punch, which will be mannys gameplan. Moreover, manny is considered to be on the decline by most observers, some may argue it's because of the opponents he's faced which has undoubtedly played a role. But from my observations, his speed of foot & hands has not been the same since the cotto fight, which could be due to one of many reasons. How do you see the fight?
Pac would still beat Cotto to the punch and get the best of Miguel in exchanges. Pac via UD or stoppage.
i would not be surprised. pac is on the slide now and is not a surprise for someone with years of war and that style of fighting. imo, he is slipping since the margarito fight and i agree that his peak was the cotto fight. this time, cotto is more experienced and his loss to margo and pac has thought him some valuable lessons. it might not be enough to beat pac again but i think this would be more competitive than the first fight.
Why? I really don't see that much improvement in Cotto. He held against Marg in the rematch. That won't help him against Pac...Is there something else?
I thinks he can too. Cotto showed very good movement bouncing around on his toes the whole fight against Margarito and boxed very smartly on the back foot, which Pac doesn't like to deal with. If Cotto can commit to just a pure boxing match, like he did against Mosley, and is disciplined enough not get lured into any exchanges he could outpoint Pac. That was his downfall against Pac, he got hurt early trading with Pac and couldn't recover to get back in the fight. He was holding his own before he got hurt. He could do better in a second fight if he just boxes and minimises his chances of getting hurt. It will be tough, as Pac will always be in the fight with the ability to hurt him and will get stronger as Cotto will tire late. Cotto's chances would improve if it's at 154 or a JMW catchweight, and maybe with the bigger gloves.
I don't understand this at all. Cotto has always fought on the backfoot. But he can't box as well as Marquez. I can not see an outcome any different from the first.
Do you agree the turning point was when he traded wildly with Pac and got hurt? Well take away the trading wildly bit and he will do better, like he was before that happened. Extra weight could help him aswell.
why do you *****s always have to think of excuses? check my posts even before the mosley and marquez fight and i have said before that pacquiao is slipping. is it impossible for someone with 17 years of ring age and his style of fighting and years of wars to regress? pacquiao, since last year he was already a part time boxer/politician. he has changed priority ever since and might have lost some fire.
I actually agree with much of what you posted. That Margarito burden has been lifted and his new trainer is a perfect fit for Junito at this point in his career...doesn't tinker too much with Cotto's technique but excels with the science of conditioning. I'm not sure that Cotto would beat Pacman but he would probably do better the second time around. The real question to ask though is...Will people pay to see it? Not so sure. Maybe with another high profile win at 154(Alvarez? Kirkland?) Cotto can make a case.
