I agree with many of you other posters opinions, the Heavyweight divsion sucks, aside from a Tyson comeback here and there, or a Holyfield fight, the division gets no attention. As I said before, the lack of personality of almost these Heavyweights is whats killing it's popularity among the average fan, as well as there declining skill level, from just a decade ago.

The funny thing is, most of my friends are excited about Tyson coming back, and told me how they would pay 50 bucs to see him fight Holyfield, these are guys that dont even watch boxing, the UFC is there thing. Personality sells, and the Heavyweight division doesnt have any.

    No.
If you ask the average person in the street to name boxers they would say: Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, George Foreman and Evander Holyfield. If they watched Celebrity Apprentice they could say Lennox Lewis. They might also say Roy Jones, Oscar DeLaHoya and Sugar Ray Leonard.
The average sports fan might add Floyd Mayweather and Wladimir Klitchko. The AVERAGE sports fan does NOT know who Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez or even Joe Calzaghe is (except in their home countries). Boxing needs the biggest and the strongest to maintain an image that John L. Sullivan started when he entered a saloon and boasted "I can lick any sonuva ***** in the place".

The Heavys haven't existed for years in my view and boxing has never been better.

if the cws are so great like most say why do they make peanuts compared to the big boys. Why do they get no tv coverage? Why don't they just fight at 200 pounds at hw since the big boys are all skilless and fat robots?

and please explain how wlad can sell 15,000 tickets at MSG and top American fighters including new yorkers at other weights only fight at madison square theatre. and spinks the supposed top 154lb fighters couldn't sell 4000 tickets in his home town.

Because there is a moronic market out there who thinks that the guys below HW are at a lower skill level. The usual average joe thinks HWs are amazing just because they're bigger. Honestly if the HBO guys tried to actually sell the cruisers a little bit more, people would probably be interested in em more.

Because Wlad has one punch KO power and that will always draw people? I can bet you the majority of those people were probably turned off on boxing because of it.

And it was unification...and as you know, Unification seems to carry this connotation that it can make everything right in boxing. Not just boxing but the world. Taxes will go away if the Heavies unify

Also Cory Spinks could put death to sleep. I wouldn't take free tickets to see him fight.

Here's what I would be interested in seeing. Instead of eliminating the Heavyweight division, what if they eliminated the Cruiserweight division? Most cruisers fight right at 200 and walk around at 215-220. And more and more heavyweights are fighting at 220. Plus, today's top tier cruisers have just as much power as some of these heavies. I think it would liven up both divisions and create some real interesting matchups. Thoughts?

We wouldn't be talking about this issue if only they set up better matchups, and not worry about whether certain promoted fighters will lose or not. Matchups are the key here.

if the amateur boxing organization doesn't pick up the pace and open up gyms to attract more and more stars, the heavyweight division will keep slacking. There is a serious lack of talent and its because we need guys with fundamentals and skills at 200+lbs. And I personally think that 250+lb men shouldn't be fighting guys that are 210lbs.

Right now yes, but in a few years you'll see a star emerge and dominate. That's is how it works. It's a cycle.

Post Marciano was bad until Liston and Clay.
Post Ali it was dead until Larry Holmes emerged.
Post Holmes it was dead for about a year or so until Tyson dominated.
Early Early 90's it was O.K.
After the depth of the 90's ended we have what we have now.

    It could easily!

Personally i don't pay any attention to the HWs, i don't know what fights are going on, i don't know who the other champs are other than Wlad and i don't know what belts Wlad holds.......

    And i couldn't care less!!!!

No ... The Hw Champion Is The Mythical "strongest Man" In The World.

There's Just Too Much Boxing At The Heavyweight Division And Not Enough Ko's ... What Originally Drew Fans To The Hw Division Is That There's Always A Chance That The Fight Can Change With 1 Punch.

More Hw Are Better Boxers And Less Relentless Risk Takers

yes this is what should be done. infuse more talent in the division. so guys like mormeck, haye, bell, cunningham, enzo, etc... would have no problem beating the heartless robot Waldo
