I think Floyd is better P4P; Calzaghe became too light a puncher late in his career and was a little open and raw early on. Mayweather has been superb from start to finish, could have fought more at the heavier weights but proved himself brilliant over-all. There's no one at any of FMs weights I'd have confidently picked to beat him during his career but a fair few during JCs that I think would have won, given the chance. As to who would win a theoretical same-size same-weight H2H, who knows? Too different in weight to assess fight styles and speed. fromwithin's Lewis analogy above answers this one.
These "p4p fights" are ridicules IMO.. Since fighters in the different weight classes is just not the same.. Example: Wladimir's style wouldnt work if he was a welter weight Pacquiao's motor would probably not be the same if he was naturally 50 IBS heavier also defending your self is not the same either, guys in the heavier weight classes doesnt have to deal with the same speed as low IBS fighters do.
If Floyd could punch I'd go with him all day, a la Toney-Jirov. But I'd say Calzaghe swarms all over him, and some of that ****'s gonna land. And Calzaghe's a southpaw so....
Okay you got what I was trying to say from the jump. Of course their not the same size but if floyd moved up in weight and maintained his speed than it'd be interesting if they fought.
there are 2 dreams in this dream match: 1. joe and floyd are the same size. 2. they actually agree to fight. imagine all the barriers each fighter will put up during negotiations to protect their 0s!
At the same weight it'd look similar to Calzaghe vs Hopkins. Calzaghe wins on workrate, and FLoyd lands more meaningful shots (but not enough shots to win).
This P4P shrinking and inflating peoples size to make match-ups is bull****. People develop their skill sets to match their physiques. If someone is 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than normal they don't fight the same way. Give it a rest.
calzaghe would bust him up pretty bad. floyd doesn't really get hit that often... he would against joe. a lot. he would also force floyd to fight as well. and he doesn't like that. look what hatton did. he forced him to fight and he didn't like it. had cortez rip him off also. now times that by 50, with a clean ref... easy work. throw in the fact that calzaghe's a southpaw...and we all know how much floyd loves those southpaws, hahahaha. floyd stands no chance!!
Maybe if Joe went down to 154 or 160.....but Floyd wouldn't be able to overcome the physical disadvantage of facing a man jsut as fast and just as dynamic who also is SUPER BUSY! H2H Floyd would probably win but it wouldn't be easy b/c Stylistically Joe is a problem with his work rate.
I think if you could somehow magically make them the same size, and in their prime years, it would be important to remember that Calzaghe was a volume puncher, and an outstanding counter puncher is a volume puncher's worst nightmare.
