Lets say he moves up sometime between 1984-86, how does he do against the LHWs of that era? Lets say he gets to work with a guy like mackie shilstone to put on the weight properly
Hagler was too short to carry LH weight well, the only thing that would help him was his really long reach, reach wouldn`t be a problem for him at LH but Leonard commented that Hagler was starting to slow in the Roldan fight (1984) if the top light heavies decided to out box Hagler and not do a Hearns I can`t see him having much success.
Probably not with Mike Spinks hanging around at LHW. Although, Hagler could probably have pasted some of the lesser lights of the division.
Marvin Johnson in those years would have run Hag out of the ring. HAG DIDN'T HAVE POWER TO HOLD HIM OFF. BTW BUCKETHEAD czyz avoided Johnson for a reason. ALWAYS the easy path for quitter czyz
Marvin knew 15 lbs was a big stretch . But in this hypothetical scenario..yes the spinks, qawi and saads are too "big and seasoned"...the mid 80s batch of champions like stewart, andries, cyzyz and an ageing johnson...i think hagler beats all of them...i dont think the 84-86 hagler had slowed as much as the biased leonard makes out...he had an off night with mugabi.....it was only the leonard fight where it became abundantly clear that marvin had become old slow and tentative....i think Marvin also does well with Hill ,Harding and Charles Williams. Marvin was very strong, had a great engine, and iron chin....u look at what tommy did to andries and hill... mccallum to harding ..and toney 5"9 to williams...and jones jnr who was only 5 10 i think we overlook marvins attributes a little
Glad to see that the responses have been consistent with my old thread: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/hagler-v-1982-light-heavyweights.558093/
