Could it be said that Michael Spinks is HW ATG?

I don't know if I'd laugh you out of town. Just out of a building maybe

Michael Spinks defeated a washed up IBF Champion Larry Holmes on Sept 21 1985 on the 30th anniversary of undefeated Rocky Marciano's last fight, a TKO 9 of World Light Heavyweight Champion Archie Moore. The second Holmes vs Spinks bout in April 1986 was a questionable win for Spinks, about a year later Spinks would defeat a washed up Gerry Cooney. Spinks was flattened in round 1 by World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson on June 27 1988. I don't think Spinks was a Hall Of Fame Heavyweight but he was a great Light Heavyweight.

Tyson did exactly what he should have done, did not let a notoriously slow starter out of the gate against one of the fastest starting HWs in history. The Jinx was a remarkably good HW, but we will never know how good a HW he would have been with Mike having done exactly what he should have done. Heaven knows what might have occurred if Tyson had foolishly let him get warmed for a few rounds, but that would have been insane. Again, Tyson did exactly what Tyson should have done, be his quick starting self.

Absolutely not... I wouldn't even consider him a HW hall of famer, just a mild footnote in history for upsetting an old Holmes and being one of the most successful light heavies to move up and grab the belt. That's it. Beating up a drunk Gerry Coney is his only other notable moment at HW.
