No..but he never really was one.

He is one of the true lightweight and welter greats...A natural flyweight losing to someone like that would never happen now.

Sasakul would be the closest thing in this era.

just want to ask i've seen a lot of ATG top 100 list, what do you think is the main reason putting ricardo lopez in the top 80 in almost all list and snobbing carvajal and yuh? they maybe 40-50 spots difference.

i must admit that calderon may never be in the same bracket as lopez but he can be in the same league as carvajal, chang and yuh.

As I said for a lighter fight Lopez is overrated simply because he appears to be the only one anyone has ever heard of under flyweight.

Truth be told, even though he is a top notch technician with formidable H2H ability 105-108 maybe that kind of ranking is unjustified..Maybe... I have him not far from there I (think about 90) but I was told by several under their criteria he probably wouldnt make it that high and he is a hard one to rank.

I dont think Carbajal is a better fighter then Ricardo..He is by a long shot the greater light fly however.

I have him a fair way back behind Canto and Salvidar, good 20-25 spots from memory...I think just ahead of Morales, who is not far ahead of Barerra.

Long way from Zarate and miles away from Olivares and Chavez.

if you look at any mexican colums, lopez is their 4th-5th guy...very very rarely you see a list where canto and saldivar ahead of him

    **** em..Im not mexican

Canto would have tapped that ass for reference...Vicente's resume poops all over Ricardo's.. Fammo, Legra, Ramos, Winstone, Laguna vs drumroll...Alvarez.

if we judge him just by his resume;Lopez probably isnt even top 10 mexican of all time.

but ATG is not 100% resume, overall ability must also be given consideration

True...how good he just straight up was brings him up quite a bit.

But Canto and Saldivar had excellent resumes AND rank very highly H2H in their divisions..which have a much richer history and depth, making that achievement more of a distinction.

Guys lets be fair with Ivan.

The guy is only 4'11 of height and a 62'' of reach. He fights opponents that outweight him for nearly 20 pounds on fightnight.

Did Lopez had to handle that kind of adversity and did Lopez even had to move up in weight to make good fights? I am not saying that he should be an ATG but i think hes done anything in his power to be on that list.....

well but if that ability isnt tested isnt tested it doesnt mean much.

its easy to look great against lesser oponents,Alvarez gave him hell and hes not on the level of a Chang,Gushiken,Zapata ,Laciar etc.

Lopez was small...Id say he was suited to straw aswell, just a bit taller.

Calderon is a certified midget but Im not so sure he would walk around to much lighter then Lopez would had in his prime.

i totally agree that Canto and Saldivar should rank higher than Lopez.

they were as skilled as Lopez and they beat better competition.
