I would have love to see Jim face when hes in the ring facing 6.6 250 pound Aj with the belts around him. Jim Prombely would have committ suicide right there in the ring.

Byrd was typically over 210lbs. Corbett fought one man of any class who was 200lbs + and he was John L Sullivan
who was 34years old alcoholic and had not fought in over 4 and a half years.Sullivan was 212 lbs here is a photo of Sullivan scaling 208lbs against McCaffrey.

His gut hangs over his tights.
Super heavies today would knock Corbett into the middle of next week!

He fought little men who weren’t even trained to throw or defend against sharp jabs and hooks! These guys are unreal.

Corbett probably has the second best mobility in HW history. His footwork was on another level.

If he knew that all modern fights were 12 rounds most, and that pot shotting to victory was culturally acceptable, he’d grimace and sneer to himself.

Also, if he knew that many historians view HW greatness a large a race to being the biggest man on Earth, he’d hire a nutritionist.

On this thread Corbett is assessed as he actually was and his chances against todays top men are predicated.
I say they are negligible. He has neither the power to keep todays big men off him ,nor judging from the sparse footage the skills necessary to do so.
His opposition were largely supermiddleweights,Choynski,McCaffrey,McCoy,Mitchell all under 170lbs several of whom were ex bareknuckle boys with little grasp of even the rudiments of Queensbury boxing.
    Sure he looked skilful against:
    Ed Kinney 0-0-0
    Joe Choynski 3-0-0
    Bill Miller 1-0-1
    Billy Smith9-7-12
    Dave Campbell 3-2-2
    Duncan McDonald 6-1-3
    Frank Smith 1-0-1

A Fres Oquendo or Chris Byrd would look like Gods against such opposition
    Andre Ward would clown him
Crude brawler 5'8" 185lbs Sharkey beat him up.
Imagine Corbett in there with a hard hitting super heavy with a good jab?
His record is a very underwhelming 11-4-3.
Another thing, Mendoza says Corbett had a good chin.
    Let's look at that statement.
    Corbett faced the following punchers:
Jeffries x2. stopped in both fights
Fitzsimmons. kod by one body shot.
Sharkeyx2 .4 rds draw+ dsq when on the verge of a ko loss
Choynski x2. Choynski was a 3 fight novice
McCoy. won many think this was a fake
8 fights .3 ko losses + rescued from a ko loss by seconds intervention causing a dsq in another .
Not too good a record for one with any claim to durability!

I ask again what are his best wins?
Where is the meat in this mythological sandwich?

The way you list these guys records seems to insinuate that you are measuring them using the same standards as modern fighters with their modern records.

Fres Oquendo would certainly not look like a God amongst these men.
He doesn't have close the boxing ability as a guy like Corbett.
    The film shows this.

You haven't seen any of those men fight so how can you make such a ludicrous statement?
Which film? Please don't try and think for me, I find I can manage very well by myself.

Because Fres doesnt posses the boxing skills and abilities to be considered a God amongst men in any era.

Thinking for you? I hope you have enough control over your own mind to prevent that.
You used film to support your argument: "judging from the sparse footage the skills necessary to do so."
And I did the same thing.

Also, to your point about Chonyski being a novice.
Why do you fail to mention that it was only Corbetts fourth fight as well?
You are a novice in your third fight, but not your fourth? The double standards here are almost too comical to be taken serious, unless there is something more to this?

Didn't take you long to resort to personal insults did it?

Now how about you answer these questions?
1.What film have you seen of those opponents of Corbett?
2.What film have you seen of Corbett fighting to assert he was this master you proclaim him to be.
3.What are Corbett's best wins to prove he was this paragon of skills?

Why didn't I mention Corbett was having only his 5th fight? Simple answer, Corbett was the heavyweight Champion of the SF AC and its official instructor, as such he was sparring nightly.Choynski in contrast was just a local lad with a local rep.Corbett had far more boxing experience ,so he was not the novice Choynski was. Question answered.
