No one perceived Cunningham as being a silly opponent, he was only a 2/5 favourite , if Cunningham was a silly opponent than 95% of fights that happen are silly mismatches

Chris was NOT a MW as a professional. The he made 2 fights under the LHW limit and 2 at CW before moving to HW.
He actually had some power early in his career, but chose instead to pull shots in becoming a better defensive fight and more responsible CPer.

He knew that his power was bottom 50% in the HW division, so rather than trying to go for the kill when he'd stunned or hurt one, he'd simply employ a strategy to get his opponent flustered or less offensive.

It worked and he had what some consider a HOF type career.
He also did not LOSE to Marinaccio, Sandow. He didnt draw against McCline or Williamson.

As for my prediction about KOing KOvalev.......

Sergei hasnt gone 9 rds. He's known for going a bit wild. Byrd would make him miss, and counter responsibly, and stunning KOvalev over and over again.

As for your argument that Byrd was once upon a time a MW......well, so was Nicolai Valuev. So was Lennox Lewis and so was Wladimir Klitschko.

No one ever calls them blown up MWs.:rofl
